How many stocks do you own?

I have about 20. I have tried to be diversified without breaking the bank. My only overlap is MCD/Starbucks and this morning you see why diversity is good. I add new shares every payday to which one i feel needs it. How many do you own ? Is 20 stocks a lot or low? i dont own huge shares in each but enough to feel the pain on a bad market day. looking at about a 20 to 25 year window before i do anything with them.

Less than 10% of my portfolio combined, but I’m now up to 6.
AMZN, NEE, TMO, PINS, SLI, and EDU.
A year ago I had AMZN only. I typically think individual stocks are a bad play.

90% of my investments is a total market mutual fund which has stock in over 2600 different companies. Outside of that I own 2 stocks. Disney and ATT which I plan to get out of and put into my total market fund.

I have a sell order set at $82 for some of my position if it hits before earnings, because the trend has been a sell off on the report.
And I have a strong hunch that top and bottom rev will beat, but monthly actives (which we got dinged on last time) will not paint a great picture.

I don't really buy individual stocks as part of my investment portfolio.
I have shares in AMGN that were a gift from my aunt when I was in elementary school. Then I have shares in 15-20 companies that I bought at the beginning of COVID shutdown, but I just consider that casino play money.

In all my various accounts, I probably have 50-60 individual stocks, as well as several mutual funds and etfs. My wife probably has about the same in her various accounts (although we probably overlap in about 1/3 to 1/2 of our stocks).

All my retirement accounts (IRA, 401k) are index/mutual funds.
I have 2 taxable accounts though, 1 where it's a defined stock portfolio I add usually ~2 stocks to a month (about 10-12 right now, just started less than year ago), and then the other taxable account is a options portfolio where I sell cash secured puts and covered calls, so when I get assigned on a put I usually have no more than 3-ish different stocks/funds at once there until I get exercised on a covered call on it. So really that portfolio isnt about holding stocks, it's just holding until I can get rid of it on a covered call.

Experts say you should own 20-30. Once you go over it gets difficult to actually manage. Unless you’re just letting it all ride.

Mostly ETFs and a couple of specialized actively managed MFs.

Own 70 stocks, no funds outside of 401(k). 50% of portfolio is in 10 high conviction names with several at 10% portfolio weight.

Stand alone, individual stocks…
4 for total of less than 3% of total portfolio
Otherwise, I’m nearly fully a Boglehead
(asset allocation > value to portfolio over time, diversified, low cost index funds, tax efficient)
Invest monthly since day started working
Big picture investment plan always wins the day (no early 2000s, 2008, or Mar 2020 financial events changed investment behavior)
Don’t risk money I need for return I do not need
Rest head at night that family security is high and having full control of my time is in my control.
