Iran: No talks have taken place, Trump trying to buy time and lower oil prices
Basically refuting everything Trump said and trying to make themselves look good

Bullish longer term. Exit liquidity short term.

We look fairly bad either way. Worst case is Trump is straight up lying. Best case is we are back in tariff era TACO territory in which Trump makes a clear ultimatum (if the Strait isn’t completely open in 48 hours, we attack) and then pretends as though he won something as he stands there with egg on his face crowing about how we aren’t going to attack because Iran is talking to us about opening the Strait. Now, just like with the tariff buffoonery, I’m glad he’s backing down, but god damn the buffoonery is tiresome.

Who was he talking to? I'm not sure we know who is in charge. There is probably a power struggle going on within the IRCG. Nobody wants to be officially in charge but I'm willing to bet their are a lot of cornered dogs that realize that surrender means certain death at the hands of the Iranian people, and that continuing to fight is the only chance they have.

Of course hes lying. He realized he self imposed a horrible short deadline on himself with no plan if they didnt react, this is him rightly pivoting from that strategy. Doesnt seem like he has a lot of good options here.

It's also possible that Iranian media, who is known for lying, is lying. They probably don't want to look like they're caving either.
Don't get me wrong, trump could very well be bullshitting, but Iranian media isn't the best source. Truth probably somewhere in the middle.

The fact people here are actually choosing to believe the Iranian media over Trump is really dang scary.

I think it's a direct result of him constantly lying, every day.

Damn. I was ready to go shopping today.

My first post was before Iran even responded. I dont trust either party. Id trust trump more than Iran, but i dont believe this post he made as he was browsing futures this morning.
What Iran is saying is sort of irrelevent to me. We dont even know if theres someone over there to be negotiated with, or if that party has control over situation with strait
Trump is gonna jawbone oil until he cant, I trust that.

There's probably a lot of sh!t going on that they aren't telling us. Trump is trying to keep the price of oil down and keep the markets from imploding.
I would bet that he is talking to the Iranians. Is he talking to the people that are threatening ships in the Strait of Hormuz? Who knows. Iran has two levels of government, as I understand it - the Supreme Ruler and Council of Experts who control the military and make policy. The president is more on the administrative side - he is in charge of the government, but reports to the Supreme Leader. They also have a judicial branch that also reports to the Supreme Leader.
Since the Supreme Leader is dead, or MIA, I think we are hoping that we will be dealing with the President of Iran and that he is willing to be more reasonable and willing to cooperate, as the highest elected official in the country.

Can we keep the poliboard insults over in it's cesspit and just talk about actual effects to the financial markets?
