you crossed the $1M net worth mark?
I know there are a lot of variables that play into this, but I just wanted to get an idea of how long it takes to make it for the average, fiscally responsible, middle income household.

Well which is it you’re asking about? Assets? Or net worth?

Net worth. Thanks for pointing that out.

Looking that it’ll be at 32 for me. Almost 32 and I’m close to 1M. I’m sure I’m going to be downvoted like crazy but it is what it is. I’m just answering the question. My first job out college I made 30k/year. Made that a few years then switched industries now averaging 150k. In reality your probably not going to find “average” on a money board.

I’m 37 and have owned a biz since 32.
Biz is worth $1.9 at last count.
Also began construction and development company a couple months back. Goal is $6.2 by 45 then I’m quitting everything and writing a memoir from Costa Rica.

Only child heir, so I guess birth. Although I'm not sure my folks' portfolio passed 1M until the mid 1980s or so. So maybe age 10.
On my own, I've dealt with every imaginable career setback, lost jobs, gig work, LLCs, jailed business partners, theft, fraud. You name it. However, my wife and I were probably closing in on 1M in total assets at least by our mid 40s, and we'll be there in just investments by our mid 50s.
For comparison, her parents are early 70s and just celebrated their portfolio going 7 figures. So, it takes some longer than others.

I am 43 yo.
Hit $500k in Q4 last year.
Currently at $680k.
Based on my trend for the past 10 years , im probable for Q4 2023.
My slowest doubling was going from 250k to 500k (47 months). Fastest was 200k to 400k (33 months for Trumps first 3 years). You could say that covid was a delay resulting in the 47 months. But having stocks priced so low on the dip is probably a big reason why im up 76% in just over 13 months (i basically put every paycheck in the market for about 6 months).

6.2 is a very specific number
What’s up with that ?

Probably going to take me until 50 because of an almost unlimited list of poor life choices. Possible I could get there quicker with some promotions and large bonuses. That will depend a lot on how things work out for me over the next 2 years.

Sounds a lot like my brother.
He isnt what i call a "saver" (home was in Atlanta, drives steve mcqueen's bullet, 3rd fiancee who is 20 years younger. But he has had an employer (he was minority owner) go belly up with fbi investigatuins. Faced a recent potential litigation which froze his paychecks for almost a year which wasnt his fault (claimant/customer was under investigation by both SEC and IRS), and just had to liquidate his home of 15 years. He makes twice what i do (is 2 years older) and is basically starting out fresh. With his new "free" lifestyle, he could hit $1M in 5 years based on his income if he continues to live like he is now.

Youve got to remember that their retirement goals were very different and under a different kind of dollar.
In 1970, a teenager would feel great about no debt and $20k/year as their retirement. That was the goal that they would draw up. By 1980, it may have been $50k/yr. By 1990, $85k/yr. The dream keeps getting higher and higher. It shouldnt be a surprise that they could be 25 years slower than us.

At 3% interest, minus taxes, is $10k/month.
I SHOULD be debt free by then, and figure at $10k/month, I can do just about anything I’d like.
We’re all different and such, but I’m not a materialist by any means. If I can drink rum and play tennis and fish every day, I’m a happy man.

45, somewhere around $600k. I’d like to start buying properties and retire early

Wife and I are 41 and 46 and we just crossed that milestone in our combined 401k’s. It seemed like any other day but I reminded her that after the crash in 08, we had 30k in those accounts. Will be interesting to see where it is in 10yrs, hopefully enough to leave the rat race behind.

When y’all say assets, you’re just counting equity in those right? Let’s say I have a $300k house with $150k in equity, you’re including that $150k in equity in your assets?

If you graduated at 22, did that 30k job for 3 years, then got the new job, paid normal taxes, and maintained a $30k/yr budget, you’d need to save every penny and then get double your investments to be at $1M at 32

If the market doesn't take a massive shite anytime soon I'll probably hit that in about 2 or 3 years. 3.50M for FI. Should hit in my mid 40s. 5.5-6.0M for RE. Hoping to RE around 52 or so.
