My favorite call in of all time was a lady who called in and said she had just paid off something like $100,000+ of debt.

Dave was ecstatic and she was acting so proud of herself.

When he asked her how she did it, she said one of her relatives had passed away and left her millions of dollars.

My favorite call was a young silicon valley employed female, whose employer was paying her student loan payments, was told by the ramsey to use her own savings to pay off the student loan debt!

Sometimes I crack a beer and watch the videos of the idiots that call into Dave Ramsey. It’s hilarious how ignorant people are.

My favorite is a call I've heard several time that goes something like this:

"Hey Dave, my wife an I make $80k combined. We live in a $400k house with a 30 year mortgage. Our car payments combined are $2500. And we aren't currently contributing to our 401k.

So my question is, with interest rates being so low do you think this is a good time to buy a boat?"

This comment on the 14 year old had me rolling.

quote:

"HI Dave I'm 3 seconds old and am just having my placenta cord cut, should I look to invest in my college fund now or should I buy this vintage stroller I've had my eye on for a second?"

It should be illegal to give financial advice this bad.

I once heard Ramsey call a listener an idiot for contributing to his 401k before he paid off all of his low interest student debt loans. The listener was only contributing enough to take advantage of his employer match..

He thinks finances is more of a psychological game than a mathematical one, and he has a point for the types of people that don’t pay off their credit card debt.

But for the rational actor, it is absolutely a math equation.

The type of advice he gives, doesn't allow for nuances or "what-ifs".

His advice is like this... let's say the match is 50 cents on the dollar, max 6% / 3% match. You are getting 9%.

Don't do that for a year, pay off your debt and build your e-fund.

When that's done... contribute 15% to your 401k. That will make up for the missed matches.

The whole idea is, you need to get out of debt today, and now... saving for retirement is a tomorrow issue until you get out of debt today.

The wifey thinks he's a finance god and it's a constant battle trying to convince her there are other ways to go about things.

Not a big fan..

You have a wife (I'm guessing a real woman) that uses Dave Ramsey's methods and you think thats bad? You should count your blessings she is conscientious of money like that.
