But do the better rewards outweigh having to pay $59/year?

I don't know. Depends on how much you plan on using the card.

If you're going to spend 20K a year on the card then you might want to consider it.

Don't get one if you don't plan on paying it off at the end of every month.
This is the absolute most important statement in this thread.

After that you need to calculate how much you spend per month on certain categories. I have the AMEX Blue Preferred with $75 annual fee. It gives you $150 cash back from the start then 6% cash back on groceries and 3% on gas/shopping. I easily spend enough in gas and groceries to get more cash back rewards than the $75 annual fee. Everyones situation is different.

Okay, let's start at the beginning:

What kind of card are you looking for?

I recently moved away from home so I will now be flying pretty frequently. I want a card specifically to earn as many airline miles as possible. I plan on paying it off each month and not carry a balance. Any suggestions?

I think I could benefit from going to a better card. I'm not applying for anything though because I want to be in a house in less than 2 years.

I also got 5 CC's in about 3 months time. I only use two. Everything is paid off in full.

My Chase Amazon card in 11 months has $315 built up on it. I put most of my purchases on that card.

My Citi Forward Card has $203 in about 9 months. I use that one mainly on restaurants.

Thanks for talking about the Citi Forward. I just signed up for it. most of my credit card spending is on Amazon and Restaurants, so it's a great fit for me.

i really like my Capital One no hassle rewards card.

they have 2 options, one that you get 2 miles per dollar spent, but their is a $59 fee per year or 1 that has a 1.25 miles per dollar spent for free and thats the one i used.

just went for a 4 day trip to SF with my wife for free thanks to them

Just make sure you redeem for a gift card. That gives you the most bang for your buck.

I'm not sure, didn't know that card had it. I haven't had it a year yet though so maybe I wouldn't know. If that applies to that card, I bet you get half of what you made back in cash? But not taking at points away.

I really don't know, just guessing.

I just applied for the Chase Freedom Card. How does this one stack up when compared to the ones mentioned previously?

I already bank at Chase so I just applied for the card that suited my best that they offered. I can use the same app on my phone and see all my accounts. On my computer its all together in one screen and one company.

It seems that as long as you pay it off each month, it really doesnt matter what card you get. Just get one with the rewards you like.

Mint.com does it better.

I decided to go w/ Capital One Cash Rewards.

It gives me my 0% APR for 12 months on balance transfers and has decent rewards. Maybe down the road I'll sign up for the Venture card or something else. paying off debt is more important right now.

I believe that the Chase Freedom and Sapphire cards are 15 months 0% APR and on transfers.
