I try to use it wherever I can. Gas/groceries/etc. so that being an avg of 1000/m, all the rest of my spending is just bills.

I did get it to make an engagement ring purchase, but now I've learned that cash gives a pretty good discount so I may just do that.

Yes, most of them do seem to have a better cash price.

Check out Blue Nile as well. My last few jewelry purchases have been through them(including lost wedding band )

Chase Ultimate Rewards mall gives an extra 5% back on top of the 1%. Tack that on with the 10% discount coupon code of '10LOVE2014'. I've found them to have very good service and responsive to anything as well as an engagement ring return policy if she says no or doesn't like it.
Eta. There's probably better promo codes out there.

With all that rambling, look in to the Chase Ink biz products even if you don't have a business you can get one in hopes that you start one.

I've been doing some Evolve Money payments on my car loan to liquidate.

Successfully paid car loan with a OV this week as well. Easy enough.

Think I'll transition over to the 7 point $200 GCs to pay in the future.

Is VSE still giving 1% back?

So, at 3 per month, that's roughly 52k points @ $180 annually out of pocket if my math is correct.

Those are pretty easy points.

VSE is still giving out the 1% but Staples isn't paying the portals. So Chase UR mall etc is pointless but $4.88 or whatever it was for 1,000 points isn't bad.

However, I've had $800 in GCs held up for a month. Giftcardmall is the servicer, and I got the activation codes, but cards never came. Called them up, they supposedly sent a new batch., and those haven't come either.

They offered a refund but that's a headache itself as I'd be owed $800 from the paid off CC. Plus it's the principle, how hard can it be!

Even crappier.

That's just shite

Well so much for that plan.

I wouldn't be discouraged. Just an unlucky order. When I just called staples a minute ago they had the order as not processed or stuck, even though I was charged.

Still a good plan, as long as you have the appropriate float.

Eta: in other news my new sim card is on the way to try Serve with ISIS

Rewards update:

UR: 60k
AMEX: 90k
Marriott: 150k
Skymiles: 40k

Flown through Atlanta 3 times in the past few months and going to the delta sky lounges makes my day. Free booze, relaxing atmosphere, quiet place if you had to do work, the benefits are amazing.

Granted this is my first time using airport lounges but it really does make air travel painless.

I have some passes I need to start using to get a feel for those clubs. I guess it's a good sign that every time I bring up using them, my fiancee says she doesn't care. Keeper!

I haven't found myself having a layover long enough to justify using a lounge, but I plan on pulling the trigger as soon as I do.

How much you travel in a year? I probably hit 50 segments in a year and I am lucky if I have don't have to spend 8 of those in a club waiting on delays.

If you only go on 5 or so trips a year they are pointless.

Five to ten per year. I don't travel for business.

I will be in the ATL Skyclub tomorrow. Delta has very few flights tomorrow due to the holiday weekend

I love the delta lounges but like others, I never spend more than an hour in an airport waiting.

My only experience is traveling with my dad who is a Delta Diamond Medallion member. He used to fly over 120k/year and even he says it is a perk but wouldn't miss it if he was given cash value for it

I agree... Now that they have gotten rid of guests I likely will downgrade to the plat delta Amex rather than the reserve.

Especially since mqm's are worthless to me. I'm a segment flyer

I believe after I hit the 60k spending threshold next month I will downgrade to the platinum as well. My company will pay for my lounge access. Once the 60k threshold MQM hits I will be a diamond and will likely reach close to 175-200k MQMs by year end. No sense in paying the extra couple hundred bucks a year for the reserve.

Diamond status will get you entry into the sky lounges. The only thing the reserve is doing for you is getting you the MQM boost when you hit your annual spending bonus it sounds like. If you can hit diamond next year without the spending boost I would definitely downgrade.

you also get 1 domestic companion ticket for free

that's one big reason I have the reserve as well

I can't go back to traveling without the lounge...I do it too much to sit out in the common area
