I'm with ya, I can't put a price on how many times the lounge has saved me during a 5hour maintenance delay.
With that said, the platinum will also get him a companion ticket and his status will get him entry to the lounge.

Correct... Only difference between the two is you can buy 1st class and get companion in 1st class with reserve. Not sure the extra $250 is worth that

What card would y'all recommend for someone who would like to use accumulated points for international plane tickets?
No particular airline, no particular time horizon, and really no particular plan. I'd just like to be able to travel and get some free plane tickets every few years.
I've read about the Barclays (arrival plus? Can't remember specific) and that sounded like a good one. Interested in other opinions.

Personally I'd get a card with points that can be transferred out to multiple airlines. Amex or Chase.

I've also researched the chase saphire preferred and that seems like a great card. Which Amex would you recommend? The Amex premier rewards gold card seems like a really good one but I dunno if it's worth the extra $80 over the CSP.

Those are the primary ones I use. If you spend a lot the Amex is fantastic. In addition to the 25000 point bonus you get an additional 15000 points upon spending $30k for the year. Additionally certain airlines get bonus points when transferring at certain times of the year.
CSP is nice because you can pair it with other Chase rewards cards and transfer the points to the CSP UR which gives many more options for transferring points.

I see that the amex premier gold is a "charge card" and not a regular credit card, I pay off my balance in full every month anyway so that doesn't really effect me, but are there any negatives to a charge card rather than a credit card?

any good discover cash back offers out now?
Posted on 7/8/14 at 6:46 am to DukeSilver
Just that you have to pay the balance in full every month. There's no preset spending limit.

Not particularly. A "true" credit card will build your credit limit, charge card won't.
I am a fan of the amex PR gold, especially if you hit the spending bonus and do a lot of grocery/gas/travel shopping.

Hm, so does it positively/negatively effect your credit score? Guess it doesn't count towards your credit utilizatio
Posted on 7/8/14 at 11:33 am to DukeSilver
There are monthly payments involved so your payment record affects your score. What it doesn't affect is credit utilization.

To anyone who has the SPG Amex, they are offering a 20% bonus if you transfer to American. I just did 40,000 SPG points and got 60,000 miles.
SPG already gives you a 5,000 mile bump when you transfer 20k SPG points + the 20% until July 31 nets you 30k
FYI

Eh, you still got 50,000 miles. BUT 60k is better

Got denied on a credit limit increase from my college approved 1000$.
-Never missed a payment
-Never Late
-Paid statement in full every month
-Debt levels extremely low (3.5k at 3.8%) one other card
Essentially the reason I was denied was my credit utilization was too high combined with credit history. My credit limit was too high because I bought a washer/dryer (that I paid and is reflected on statement already) and it caused that card to be too high of credit utilization
I was wanting a CL increase to make my credit score even better :sadnana:

Same thing with US Airways.
Cool, didn't know that. AA works better for me as they do 35,000 miles for a RT to the mainland. I just booked my cousin to come out here for 17,500 one way.

Does anyone know the rhyme or reason as to how Chase does credit limit increases? My southwest premiere rewards card just got a $5k bump out of nowhere. But, my CSP (which I got the same month as the southwest) is still just sitting there at the same credit limit. Just curious...
