I'm sure this has been asked but is it 5/24 per card that you are the main card holder on or even if you are an authorized user on it? Can I sign up for 5 cards under my wife then another 5 under myself?
Posted on 6/20/16 at 2:23 pm to LSU1018
Unfortunately, AU counts against 5/24. But it depends on the bank. Some banks don't require an SSN to add AUs. So those are fine.
The rule is any new account linked your ssn in the past 24 months. All the good co brands and actual Chase cards except ihg and hyatt fall under 5/24.

Ya, I used to always make myself an AU on my wife's cards so I could handle the sign up bonus stuff. Now, I think I'll just put her and use her card online or places where they won't check it all the time. All those AUs on my report could create a hassle.

I'm pretty sure that doesn't hurt you either way. You're already way over I'm sure. So why bother

Maybe I'll cancel out these no fee Barclay's and Cap One's on my report so I can hit those again. I don't want to use points domestically so I've been paying to fly those routes lately, but this seems like a nice alternative. Had them sitting there for Average Age purposes but maybe not necessary any more.
ETA: Do you recall Barclays and Cap One's app rules? Date from last app, date of earning bonus, or date of cancellation and time periods to wait?

That's really cool actually .
Barclays technically has no min cool off times and you can have multiple cards. But they make it really hard to get multiple or even 1. Pretty much impossible affer 2. I have 2 and got denied for 3rd though all different products.
Cap one is similar to Barclays although I think it is easier to get the first couple.

I already got the CSP/Freedom combo but want to take advantage of the Ink bonus. How do I explain my "business" to them if I don't have one?

Depends what type of business you want to "set up"
You'll be doing a sole proprietorship so make sure you emphasize that you are "Trying to keep expenses separate from personal cards"

Damn, that sucks. I wasted a 5/24 on an AU then. Do you know if it still counts if you remove yourself as an AU? I'm assuming yes.
Good to know Hyatt and IHG don't count though.
It's definitely not worth the 5-10k points to burn a bonus on, though it is the pretty much easiet earn ever.
On a somewhat related note, anybody have any insight as to how long United bonus typically takes to post? We've each met our spending threshold but have not been issued the first statement yet. Will it be immediately after the statement? Website says it could be 6-8 weeks, but I'm hoping this is not reality.

I think I already have 5 cards in the past 24 months. I know for sure I have 2 cap one, Aex, chase Disney (stupid, never even used it, was going to Disney and thought it'd be useful)...also got a kohl's card, not sure if that counts.
I constantly get offers in mail from chase. 2 to 3 offers a week. So does that mean I still might be approved for chase? Or would 5/24 catch me when I apply?
Making big purchase in August (10k..normally I spend 1k/month so it's a lot to me), so trying to plan my strategy. Just not sure I can count on chase.

Need some help from some of you gurus about my next move in the card game. Quick background info.
Currently have:
Bank of America Cash Back Card
Discover It
Chase Freedom
Recently opened a AMEX Delta Gold Card as it gave me a statement credit and 30k miles plus the free checked bag, and I live close to a Delta hub. Also, I have a Marriott rewards number (no card) and same with American Airlines frequent flyer number (no card).
GF mentioned last night she thinks she wants to get in this crazy game too. She has never had a credit card. Best options for her?
We have multiple trips planned in the next few months. At least 2 domestic flights as well as one leaving the country for a week or so.
Should I start her with a It/Freedom card or should we get an airline/hotel type card? I see lots of talk here about the Freedom/CSP/Ink combo but not sure I fully understand it.
Haven't been keeping up with this thread like I was a few months ago. Any big signup/referral bonuses available anywhere? Trying to make sure we start her off with a strong start.

When you have either CSP or INK, you earn "Ultimate Rewards (UR) Points." You can transfer these points to airline/hotel partners which give more value
For example, you can transfer UR points to Southwest points 1:1. I recently booked a Southwest flight that where the point value was 1.75%
So if I earned those points 5% on the Freedom, I would get 5% x 1.75 = 8.75% value

I recently got American Express..only had to spend $1,000 to get 75,000 bonus points. Spent about $1500 and now have a bit over 80,000 points, which is enough for 2 nights at some hotels.
But now that I do the math, I would need 120,000 for 3 nights at some hotels (Places like Destin..most NYC hotels, just FYI, are 50,000 points per night or more..some are 70,000 points per night)...so based on 5 points per dollar, I would need to spend $8,000 to get another night stay? Is this right? It's early and I haven't had coffee so I'm hoping I'm missing something.
Places like Wal-Mart, etc., are only 3 points per dollar so that's even worse.
So I would say AEX has a good, low spend for your GF to meet, but after you get those first 2 nights free, it's worthless.
Not using it for everyday spending.

What amex card is giving you 5x,3x per $ spent?
Also, you would want to transfer out your MR points to a hotel partner (ideally when there is a transfer bonus happening) to maximize your points, not redeem directly off amex travel website.
If you are talking about the Hhonors amex and redeeming those points for bad value, then that is a testament to Hilton's rewards program and not so much the cc.

Yes it's Hhilton points. First Amex, saw the 75,000 and low spend and went for it.

Maybe this one isn't so good for your GF after all.

Got it. Yeah unless you are really trying to earn points toward Hilton I would switch to something different.

As far as Hilton cards go, I recently found a nice offer when booking a hilton room...it was on last page in bottom right.
Basically it was the normal Citi Hilton Reserve offer for two free night certificates but it also came with a $100 statement credit after speding $100 on a Hilton stay in the first 6 months. Great if you have Hilton stays in the near future.

So my next card should be the CSP?
Edited to add:
Or should she apply for a CSP and later for the Ink? She owns a business and I think I have read where you must have a business to open the Ink

Does she have a credit history? If she doesn't, I doubt she'd get approved.
