umor is leaking that Chase Freedom 5% is going away for new signups and may also be auto product changed to Unlimited from Doctor of Credit.
That sucks but I guess writing was on the wall with intro of freedom unlimited. If that happens, I guess chase answers the question of which freedom is better haha

Me and my wife have about 150k UR points. I'm a complete idiot when it comes to taking advantage of transferring points and whatnot. Also, I wouldn't even know how to do it if asked.

We would like to take a trip somewhere tropical.
Any good suggestions on how to maximize points to pay for trip?
We want to plan this trip but don't know how to because of my ignorance of the UR points.

Yes! Flights in economy would be covered but you would have to pay for hotels. You can go pretty much anywhere in the world

Any tropical destinations close enough where airfare and hotel would be covered? Or am I overestimating my amount of points?
Posted on 6/6/16 at 9:43 pm to geauxcats10
For how many days? Airfare and hotel for 150k points is probably pushing it.

One cheaper option...Hyatt Zilara Cancun is an all inclusive at 25k pts/night. Depending on where you're flying from, you may be able to fly SW to Cancun r/t for 15-25k SW RR points per person. That leaves 100k points for 4 nights at Zilara.

Is Cancun considered tropical? Honestly don't know.
When you say tropical destination I'm thinking Hawaii, Tahiti, Fiji etc etc. I guess Costa Rica is tropical too. Your points can take you to Hawaii and may cover a few hotel nights as well. It's 25k round trip per person, leaving you with 100k points to work with. This can give you 4 nights at andaz maui or grand hyatt kauai or 5 nights at Hyatt regency Maui.

I have a question regarding the Chase Hyatt Credit Card sign-up bonus. The sign-up bonus was to include 2 free nights if I spent $1000 within the first 3 months of opening the card. I have well exceeded the $1000 but I don't believe it has been 3 months yet. Do I have to wait the full 3 months to have access to these free nights or should they have be available after the $1000 is reached? If they are available now, then how do I access/use them?
I have a Hyatt Gold Passport account and I am seeing my rewards points accumulate, but I do not see any mention of 2 free nights.
ETA: Nevermind, already answered my own question and found where they are located on my Hyatt account.

Actually, I'm still a little confused on how to redeem these 2 nights online, even though I see them listed under the "My Awards" tab.

Don't forget that you have to pay a ton in fees/taxes for int'l flights on SW with points. ~$100/person last time i checked

Literally the easiest awards to redeem online. Just click on award nights where it shows you have 2 nights > Redeem > Choose hotel and book.

Looks like the only way I can make it work is if I book 1 night at a time. For some reason if I choose a duration of two nights, my option for free night disappears.

Do you have to redeem 1 night at a time? I was trying to book my free nights consecutively at the Bellagio and it doesn't give me the option. If i search 1 day at a time it gives me the option. I don't want to have to change rooms if i book it individually.
Also, can i got purchase visa gift cards at office depot and then use those gift cards to buy money orders to put back on my account?

Yes, 1 night at a time. They will merge your nights into 1 stay automatically. If you are worried, book then call and tell them to merge it. Further, if you and say your spouse book nights out of your individual accounts, you can have those merged into 1 "stay" as well. I say "Stay" in quotes because in this case the stays will be different but you will not have to change rooms. Call ahead in this case.
I don't think so. I think Office Depot is cash or debit only for GCs hard coded on the register.

Same issue I am having, I may just call them to book it and be on the safe side.

BTW, I'm taking your advice on The Confidante in Miami...you haven't steered me wrong yet.

It's below the tropic of cancer, so probably...Either way, it's a short flight and fairly cheap points wise, so I threw it out there.
