re: Credit Card Rewards and Points Discussion

I posted a thread a couple of weeks ago about the best card to use for points and rewards. I decided to go with the Citi Double Cash. Since me and the wife are paying off the balance at the end of every week(Sunday), we are building a cash back very quickly. I highly recommend this card for those that are paying off the balance weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.

Board FYI: The wife got a 100k Amex Plat offer in the mail today. Normal $3k spend in 3 months.

The difference is that with the CSP you have transferable points. So you don't have to use them at SW, like you would have to with SW cards. The other thing is that with the CSP your earning will be quicker since you will earn bonus points for any travel and dining. With SW card you will get that bonus just for SW spend. Unless you go for the companion pass, these two reasons make the CSP the obvious choice.
Plus CSP comes with other ancillary benefits like primary rental car insurance which SW doesn't. Couple other things as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong - she's never had an AmEx before?

Thanks...makes sense.
So lets say I have 70,000 miles with my Cap 1 Venture and then get the CSP and get the 50k from them (total 120k miles).
Let's say I purchase $1,200 in airfare on my Cap 1 Venture card. All I have to do is call Chase and have them transfer the points over to Cap 1 Venture Rewards?

Did anyone apply for the MB Amex Plat on the 75k/$3k offer and not get their card yet? I applied a week ago and nothing. They usually ship overnight within a day or two. I called them and was told it is still being processed (even though I was approved instantly). Annoying.

You cannot transfer bank points to other bank points. Just like you can't transfer airlines to other airlines and hotels to other hotels.
You can transfer chase points to chase travel partners like united, SW, Hyatt etc. Cap 1 points are simply travel cash back.

Once I have my points in the SW account, I can cancel the card right or do they have some required time period to hold it?
Posted on 6/24/16 at 2:42 pm to AmeriKop45
Ah...i got ya, so only between other chase cards/accounts (like spouse to spouse for example).

Still willing to participate in that thing but business is overwhelming me right now.
Plus I leave for St. John in four days.

Nah. May look into it next time if I have some. Any thoughts on Royal Playa del Carmen?

Hey all. My wife and I (recently married) have a 20k purchase planned in the next few months.
Neither of us have a credit card of any sort so we are starting from scratch. The 20k will be broken up into multiple 3-4k purchases over the course of 2 months and we have the cash to pay the bill off immediately.
What's our best bet to try and maximize this opportunity?

Have you had any credit cards in the past?

I would think for that large a purchase the sapphire preferred if the signup bonus is 50k. I would get 1 card for you and one for your wife and split the purchases for an easy 120k points

If they can get approved. That isn't a starter card.

I appreciate all of those with the knowledge on here as I've enjoyed following the thread.
I'm looking for some advise on my plan in the near term with my cards. Right now my main card is an American Express Hilton and I've built up about 160,000 points and should be at diamond status in the next few months.
My kids are dying to go somewhere in the Caribbean and I have my sites set on the Hilton Rose Hall resort in Jamaica.
Right now I'm thinking I get my points up to 225,000 or so to get two or three free nights depending on when we go and then switching to a southwest visa. Right now I have 25,000 SW points so it would take long to build up for 3 or 4 flights. Plus I need to get a visa card so I can shop at Costco.
Is there something I'm missing such as a different card or strategy?

Just getting into the Chase UR game - have had Sapphire for about 1-2 months and got the signup bonus. Will get Freedom and Freedom unlimited to supplement.
Since I'm applying for these at the same time, I'm thinking about getting a hotel card to package into a trip with the CUR. Debating between Hyatt, Marriott, and IHG. Any thoughts on these? I have a 3k purchase coming up in the next month and really want to make some cards minimum spend so I need to figure this out soon. Thanks.
