Coming to this board for some advice, take it easy on me
Things to consider:
I work 100% remote
Live downtown
Can order groceries online
Right now I have a quote from the dealership to buy back my 2019 car for about 5k less than what I paid for it new in 2019. My thinking is: why not sell it now? Go car less for a month or two and see if a recession really takes hold. I’d have to assume car buying would significantly slow down even with a shortage of inventory thus bringing car prices down a good bit again. Or is that just wishful thinking?

Not a horrible idea, but it could be several months before we really see in changes in the car prices.

I'd go one week completely car-free and see if you like it. If it seems doable, sell, but if it's too much of a stretch at least you found out before selling the car

I'm not sure if a recession happens that fast, however i had an audi ordered from driveway and they sold it out from under me, which was a blessing in disguise. Used car market is still ridiculous, but i'm seeing prices drop... at least for what i'm shopping for.

Don’t forget when you buy another car you will have to pay all sales tax again

How much money they offering for the car?
Do you owe on it?
Do you own a bycicle?

Own it, 50k. Don’t own a bike but been looking at some Specialized. Could get a golf cart to ride around in too.
Maybe sprinkle some of that on Apple, MSFT, EXAS etc
The fact Im not getting laughed off the board early is a good sign and makes me believe more in my plan.

Nope, no family yet. Just me and my dog.

You can take a lot of Ubers with your car insurance savings alone. Not to mention a rental if you ever needed it. If it was just me, I wouldn't hesitate

How secure is your job? What if you are laid off and your other job is not remote and/or at a location where walking to work isn't an option?

Well then he goes and buys a 20K vehicle and pockets the other 30K

I rather have a 22k civic in driveway than no 50k car in driveway.

You could probably do better if that's their first offer.

Definitely like the idea of doing your absolute best to not use the car at all for a week. If all goes well, then try doing 2 weeks. If it's still good, I wouldn't use it till being "carless" really puts you in a bind. Then evaluate.

Sell car. Get a scooter or Segway. Profit either way!
