I’m wrestling with what the right move is here. Long story short, im buying a loaded 2020 Ram Big Horn 4x4 with the 5.7 V8 for $36k. Has 40k miles on it. Not particularly interested in comments about whether or not I got a deal or got “ripped off”

Anyway I’ve always been on the fence about the value in extended warranties. They’re obviously not cheap, but neither are major repairs on these new-ish vehicles

Here is a cost summary of the MaxCare warranties that CatMax offers

Are there any other warranty companies that might be more competitive? Or is this pretty standard for what’s offered

Thanks for any tips or insight, im picking the truck up in a few days

Since its a Ram, definitely buy a warranty.

If you want to save on buying a warranty, get a 2020 Tundra.

I knew the first comment would be something similar lol

Can we stick to the vehicle my credit union currently has a buy order for. This is my 4th Ram. I have no major complaints

Typically 15-20k a year. Nothing crazy

I have a work truck that absorbs most of my daily miles

I wonder if the insurance company called MaxCare thinks they will win or lose on this bet.

Surely, they've done some research.

Do you have a credit card that you could put a major repair on, just in case? And then pay it off, if it really happens.

I've owned at least one, and up three private vehicles since 1982, and I've never had a $2000 repair on any one. Just my experience.

Make sure you check which repair shops you can use. I considered it when I bought my car in Memphis and only one shop in all of Northwest Arkansas is eligible through max care and it was 30 minutes away, that would be pain in the arse.

Have you called MOPAR to see what their prices are? I would definitely get a couple of quotes. Unless you are rolling the cost into the purchase....I purchased one with a new vehicle. I assume a used vehicle cost would be higher.

That's an above average number of miles, definitely if you have another vehicle that you drive to work.

I would start with looking up your vehicles current warranty from Mopar.

LINK

You should also look at the history of the 5.7L engine and potential problems.

I am not informed enough to say if this is a good deal, but would go with a higher deductible. Is there a higher one than $300?

Sounds like the factory warranty is close to being up. How long are you planning to keep this vehicle, in years or in terms of mileage?

My take is warrenty crap is usually worthless and like insurance, a complete waste of money.
