I am building a house and trying to figure out what size master bedroom I should have. The current plan calls for 15x19. What is your opinion? Thanks

Built a house a couple years ago and mine is 17x16. I find it very large. Plenty of room for a king size bed, two night stands, dresser.

One of the stranger questions I've seen on here.

What are your needs? How big will the home be overall?

You can google average room size, but that doesn't tell you much without context of your greater project.

Mine is 16x20, and I think it's too big. I'd give up some of that space for larger closets.

Ours is 13x18, but our bed is over 8 feet wide, so 13 doesn't leave much room to get around the side. 18 is plenty long enough though. If I was designing a house, I'd probably shoot for 15x18 or so.

Mine is 16x16, and it could be smaller and be fine. Doesn't need to be bigger to me.

Depends on what you want. If all you need is a queen-sized bed, a nightstand and a chest of drawers then you won't need much. If you want a fireplace, big screen TV, and a platform with a pole for strippers to dance on in front of you, you will need more space.

The most important trend in building master BRs for a couple is Separate Bath Rooms. Not separate vanities. I'm talking about two different BRs off the bedroom.

It keeps all of your wife's beauty products and crap away from your space. If you share a very large bathroom eventually 90 percent will be hers.

Mine currently is 11x12 and it's way too small IMO. Our queen bed with one nightstand, dresser and chest take up a lot of the space. When we tear down and rebuild, I'm thinking we'll be close to the size you have spec'ed. At the very least 14x18 for a lot of the plans I've looked at for inspiration.

My opinion is don't undersize it. Definitely better to have too much space than too little.

Mine is 14.8 X 18.4. Thats plenty big IMO. I have vaulted ceilings with beams too so probably makes it feel bigger that it really is.

Don't skimp on master bed or bath. You're the ones paying for the house.

Ours is 16x17

Plenty of room for king bed, his and here dressers, ect

BUT, not enough room if you didn't have an exercise room and wanted something like a treadmill in there.

I have a huge master bedroom and I think it's complete wasted space. I'd trade it in a second for additional square footage in literally any other room in the house.

that is a mid sized bedroom (if that), not a master.

You want at least a queen, room on both sides, and plenty of space at the foot of the bed.

15 x 18 makes it, and a huge walk in closet. without a HUGE walk in closet and dual sinks, you can't call it a master bedroom.

That's big enough if you build a half octagon bay into it using 4 30/70 Windows. Really opens up the area for more furniture.

I'm building one that is 14x14. The house is an expensive site to build on so only 1,750 ft2, two bedroom. I'd rather use the space for the living area. And I've got a nice deck off the bedroom that overlooks a lake. And a 7x10 walk in closet for the master and a nice sized master bath. I just don't see the point of a very large bedroom.

Question for you. What size room do you have now? And is it to small, just about right or a little to big? What furniture do you have in your room and do you plan on changing sizes of bed?

15' is a little narrow for a master. Most we do is 16' minimum. Now this is dependent on the size house are building but I would use those Q's above as a guide.
