LOL.
It's been for sale for 20 years!
Nobody wanted to buy it because the government took it from a local cartel family.

Keep me updated. If I didn't have a family, I'd spend most of my year in Mexico or SA. Maybe drop down to Chile during our winter

These countries don’t want Americans coming in and competing for jobs; if you can work remote or a similar situation and bring $USD to their economies, they would love to have you..

You speak Spanish?
Yes. Two years of daily lessons and a Venezuelan gf got me to a B2 level.

I'm building a house in Mexico right now. Plan on spending a lot of time there.
Go travel to all those places and visit the expat communities

What are the laws like in Colombia as far as owning property? Any worry they government could step in and take it from El Gringo?

Not at all. I'm not even worried about that in Venezuela.
You can buy an apartment on Margarita Island right now for less than $15,000.
And before the idiots show up, no, Margarita Island is not dangerous.

US passport won't get thru customs in Caracas. Airlines aren't even flying the route.
I believe the venny nationals have to come thru Mexico city.

I have settled down in Pereira, Colombia and Barranquilla, Colombia.
This is my ideal. Salento and Filandia are two of my favorite places I've been in the world. Would also be down with homesteading up in Minca.

My visa for Venezuela has been approved. There are Americans living in Venezuela.
To get there you have two choices.
Panama City to Carcas
Enter through Cucuta, Colombia.
My plan is to stay on Margarita Island for a month and asses if investing makes sense. Very few places in the world where you can own a beachfront property for the price of a used shitty car in USA.

Have been thinking about applying to an internal expat position within Universal actually. Would be in Osaka. Just not sure with a 3 year old and 1 year old if I have the patience for a big move.

Awesome to hear. Thanks for the insight. When did you know you were ready to make the jump? Did you wait until you had the passive income to cover all your expenses first? I'd like to make the move while I'm still young but 85% of my monthly income right now is my salary and getting there through real estate I'm sure will take several years

I live in Abu Dhabi on assignment with my O&G employer. Living outside the US makes you change your perspective on a number of things. For me it has been how unhealthy Americans are, for my wife it has been how shocking gun violence is in the US compared to other 1st and 2nd world countries. Our kids speak some Arabic and have friends from around the world, and have been to 4 continents in the last 7 months. We will transition back eventually but enjoying it presently.
