I went to all cash this morning. I'm usually optimistic about the market but I think the wheels may be coming off for the foreseeable future and i don't want to take the ride down any lower. I think China will only get worse and I think they will wait til the presidential election to see if Trump gets ousted. More China tariffs to come. And now a totally left field thing with Mexico tariffs. I like that Trump is trying to fix problems that should have been dealt with decades ago, however, its not good for my portfolio. He's just too unpredictable for the stock market. I'm just gonna wait things out for a while. Maybe go into a long term government bond ETF.

Your overall premise about market volatility due to the elections and Chinese trade war isn't bad but that's why we DCA and buy the dips...

Not necessarily a bad move. The stock market is overvalued in some sectors- there was a thread here last fall that mentioned AMZN trading at 140x earnings.

It really depends on your timetable. If you're young, stay in (a bad market over the very long term and we're all screwed anyway).

I would say the trade war is a bad reason to eject. If a Dem other than Gabbard wins next year, the Chicoms will get whatever they want and Fortune 500 companies will boost their profits. If DJT or Gabbard wins and China bends the knee, our manufacturing base will be stronger and consumers will have more disposable income. If China holds out, production moves from there to other southeast Asian countries. It's a no lose unless you're invested in specific companies that depend on cheap Chinese imports.
