Good point. I may have been trying to outthink the room when I was setting it up. I'll take a look at it again in December. Regardless, all doing fairly well right now.

If my company uses vanguard for retirement, what are the best funds to allocate it to? I have some in the target date then about 30 in S&P, 10 each in mid, small and real estate.

If you're North of $10k in each of those you mentioned and there's a comparable Admiral Fund, then you could at least start there to save on fees.

Thanks

My employer uses Fidelity - if you take the time and effort, you can roll out of the standard investments into a brokerage link account...and the investment world is open to you.

As Ferris would say, “it is so choice”.

Thanks for this info. Will certainly look into it.

ETA: My employer's plan does not allow access to brokerage link account.

Yeah brokerage account options are becoming more popular. It's great for people who have some basic understanding of investing. It's a disaster for the typical employee.

Are you limited on what can be purchased in the brokerage account?

I see leveraged ETFs aren't allowed. I'd imagine there are some other ETFs that don't make it on the platform, even if they aren't explicitly excluded in those other categories.
