Aleva could have done three things. 1. Ignore everything and do nothing. 2. Put out a statement saying they would make no decisions until things played out in the court system. 3. Look like he was clueless of any wrong doing by calling in Wade to "explain" things.
He chose no. 3 because I am sure he thought that was best for Joe Aleva and his reputation. Then when Wade refused to come he was within his rights to suspend a disobedient employee. So again this makes the sterling clean, clueless of any wrong doing Aleva, look good because he took immediate action once the charges were levied.
If Smart is suspended for the rest of the season, that is just more of the same making Joe look good. None of it will lessen any penalty the NCAA eventually levies against us.

I know if I ask an employee to come talk to me about something related to their job, and they do not, it's pretty much an immediate firing. No manager worth anything would support that level of insubordination.

This is only happening because LSU basketball is winning. I noticed alot of talk about Will Wade's recruiting tactics, exactly what is he doing that is illegal? Did he actually pay Smart or was he just talking about paying him?

No, that is the hand Wade has been forced to play! As evidenced by the countless other atheltic departments that are faced every single season on how to navigate their basketball coaches getting caught up in scandals, this could have been handled in many ways. They CHOSE this path to clearly cover their own asses.

It's hard for me to get upset about doing what is "right". I don't care what other departments do.
