How old are you GT1983, do you remember the game?

I am 39. I was in 1st or 2nd grade at the time. I remember my dad watching the tournament in the living room but I am sure I was too busy playing with my video game or something else I am sure

That was Carlos Groves, he had been doing this all game. Fault the officiating.

That whole response was orchestrated. The Tennessee player just grabbed him at the waist. Shack throws a forearm and should have been ejected.

Just when I thought you couldn’t be a worse poster, you go and do this.

“hack a Shaq”

The intent of this strategy was to make him shoot free throws

Reason #1,842 why Shaq would still run through a brick wall for Dale Brown.

I remember it very well. It was in the SEC tournament The Tennessee player was Carlus Groves whose only contribution to his team was his ability to hack Shaq.
Dale said that was the straw that broke the camel’s back in making the decision for Shaq to go pro.

Yep. He may not have been a great winning coach, but a hell of a leader of young men.

Watch the whole game and then come back and say that Shaq was being murdered the whole game.

The refs let the game get way out of hand and that was long before the video of the no call.

That was a frustrating year.
We had a solid team - and Shaq was REALLY good - except at the foul line.
To see a game be reduced to the other team fouling Shaq, and sending him to the free-throw line, was crazy.
I didn't, and still don't blame Dale for protecting him, or advising him to go pro.
A lot of the fouls during the year were absurd...

All time winningest coach in LSU basketball history, beat Kentucky more than any other coach.

Made the final four and final sixteen how many times vs all the other LSU coaches?

I could go on and on.

Dale Brown is the best basketball coach LSU has ever had, the pure junk on him not being able to coach is funny.

He was light lights ahead of the NBA on putting in the triangle offense and that was well before Tex Winters came to LSU. And on defense some even today look back at the LSU defense he used.

Groves was all over Shaq the entire game. Couldn’t blame Dale for what he did

Very possible. Went to the NCAA’s that season and the next. That was it for post-season for him until he retired in ‘97.

What did Dale in was the injuries to 2 of our key recruits and the Lester-Kansas deal the NCAA had it's hand on wheeling and dealing (meaning turning a total blind eye on Kansas and telling Lester just like Tito's deal).

Randy Livingston likely would have been the best point guard in LSU had he not been injured.
