I went to USL for 3 semesters play on the JV Baseball team or whatever Didier called us. But I wear LSU gear and went to 100’s of games, before I moved out of state. I watch every LSU game I can and go back home and catch game’s every couple of years

I can dig it. My decision to go to ULL was also a baseball one. The only time I don’t root for the Tigers is when they are playing the Cajuns in baseball.

Yes you are an LSU fan since you identify that way. Isn't that the modern way of things?

Am I not worthy of being a fan?
if you or anyone reading this ever catches me walking around campus tailgating and I'm carrying my diploma, you have my explicit permission to beat my arse. I've never once been asked to show it to enter Tiger Stadium, and that better not change.

Any of you baws who for whatever reason never made it on the student rolls are always welcome to sit by me.

pissed off they didn’t recruit my son. Not sure who I’ll route for when he plays them.

Bummer. Kicker, right? Where’d he end up committing?

Graduated 1987 from LSU. My dad never went to LSU. He was a much bigger LSU fan than me. I think going to a school as a true fan litmus test is stupid.

when I found out they weren’t gonna let me use my mother’s LA address for in state tuition, I chose to go to a G5 school that doesn’t care about sports specifically so I could still openly root for LSU without anyone giving a shite

I think going to school with these guys jades you somewhat. They're your own age. Some of them are nice guys, others not so much. You (sometimes) go to class with them. You see them at the bars. They compete with you for female attention. Sometimes they crash your parties. Sometimes you get in fights with them.

Its hard to idolize people you know so well. I remained a fan after attending LSU but I never again put any of the players on a pedestal like I did when I was a kid.

I grew up in Magnolia Woods and paid my own way through LSU in the mid 1970s. I support all of these comments regarding Tiger fans with Tiger or Louisiana ties in some fashion…even some of the bandwagon fans like SVP!

What makes me cringe are all of these wannabe Alabama fans around the country that are incredibly vocal and arrogant…never having stepped foot in the state. I have two good friends in this category, and it is just pathetic. Both are from rural Missouri. You would think they have a personal relationship with Nick and Mrs. Terry. They live and breathe Alabama.

Huge difference between them and a hard working oil worker from back Brusly who never attended LSU but bleeds Purple and Gold!!! Especially if the can cook and are fun at a tailgate!

Committed to Arkansas, full offers from Ole Miss and Florida. Never even had a workout at LSU. He’ll still get to kick in Tiger Stadium…just not for the good guys.

That was a narrative that the douchebag fratboys started.

The rowdiest and loudest fans that made Tiger Stadium’s reputation will always be the working class blue collar fans that filled the place in the 70’s and 80’s. Most of which never took a class at LSU.

Those fans had a lot of kids that did go to LSU though. So the blue collar guys still eventually sent money to LSU.

When I decided to get an online MBA from LSU, the link for my MBA program took me to LSUs.

So while no degree from LSU BR, I'm still a fan. I was a fan while growing up as well, but NLU (ULM) offered a free ride for 4 years which was impossible to pass up.

Attendance at a University isn’t a pre-requisite for being a fan AT ALL. People who say this about LSU fans that didn’t go to LSU really need to reevaluate this position.

The New Orleans Saints don’t have a University yet many in the state are Saints Fans. You also don’t have to live in New Orleans to be a Saints Fan. In fact many people across the country are Saints fans and have never visited Louisiana.

Many LSU fans are kids and teens that grow up watching LSU or attending games in Tiger Stadium. They also don’t go to LSU. They are Still fans! In fact every single recruit that commits is a huge LSU fan and they haven’t enrolled in any classes.

Feel free to be a Fan of LSU whether you went there or not. Feel free to support them in any way you can! All
Are welcome in the Tiger Nation Family.

Never went to school at LSU either. DIE HARD FAN FOR LIFE.
TAF does not seem to have an issue with taking my money regardless if i attended the school either.

College football has always been a bigger deal in the southeast US. There’s a long history of traditions and community involvement. The NFL didn’t put teams here until the 19060s and 70s. Deep rooted attachments to college teams had already been established. So, this idea that you have to be a graduate to be a fan is just some gatekeeping BS.

The NYY and Braves fans in La is hysterical. But it happened because through the years there were players from La and the Yankees and Dodgers were always in the WS back in the day. There are Cincinnati Reds fans there too from the 70’s. Those that loved Rose, Bench, Morgan, etc. many didn’t even know that Morgan played for the Astros. Crazy how close the follow their team. I bet outside of Judge most NYY fans in La don’t know more than 3 players including DJ LeMeheiu. Just how dedicated “fans” they are. Just a bunch os bandwagon fans.

The Braves, and also the Cubs, got a lot of fans around the county with the growth of cable TV because the games were on TBS and WGN every day. I remember the Yankees having a little popularity in Louisiana due to Ron Guidry - ha, I did a book report in fifth grade on a Crawfish Man book where he saved him. I think a current, and better, example would be people who are Cincinnati Bengals fans because of Joe Burrow.

But I think to the point of the OP, none of those are reasons to really criticize people for being a fan of a team, college or pro.

My uncle (E.G. Blakewood) played on the 1922 LSU football team. My Dad Russell Faulkner) and Uncle Bony (Herman Winfred Faulkner) went to LSU in the 1930s and 1940s. While at LSU, Dad managed City Park Pool. Early on, he lived in the dorms beneath Tiger Stadium, and then, in the late 1940s, returned to complete his degree after a stint in the Army, where he met my Mom and lived in married student housing. They married ion 1948. I was born in 1949 when Dad was a student there. He graduated from LSU in 1950 and the three of us moved to de Ridder. While in de Ridder, I listened to my first LSU football game, and have been a fan ever since--though I never actually attended a class at LSU. So perhaps I am an LSU fan due to genetics.

My dad didn't give a shite about sports beyond hating Muhammed Ali but my oldest sister's first husband had played baseball at LSU in the '70s. He used to get all the old Tigervision PPVs and throw big rowdy BBQs. It was my firstexperience with fanhood and LSU has been my team ever since even though I graduated NLU after attending La Tech and Western Carolina briefly.
