Is Zach Arnold a legit starting option at SS in 3 weeks? I would like to keep mathis at 3rd and doughty at second. Dugas is a nice utility player to have in the pocket.

Doughty does NOT need to be batting early in the lineup. His BA is below .200.

I think there are 4 certainties in the line up, at this point:
- Beloso isn't coming out
- Cabrera isn't coming out
- Garza isn't coming out
- Mathis isn't coming out
There are 3 safe bets:
- Bianco will be given a bit of a leash in LF
- Doughty will be given a bit of a leash
- Milazzo will give Garza a break catching.
The big question marks:
- Is Mainieri comfortable enough with an infield of Mathis, Dugas, Doughty to leave Hughes on the bench.
- The battle for the last OF spot, between Gio and Hampton.
Agree with everything you said, perhaps would add one more under question mark - who DHs when Garza catches.

That doesn’t mean a lot 4 games in. Maybe in another two weeks I’ll agree.

Doughty is squaring up a ton of balls. Had two loud outs last night

We’re 4 games into the season...

He had surgery to get a rib removed. It’s going to take him time to get back into the swing of things and get comfortable against live pitching.

No.
True freshman with no fall and spring practice. Don't let anyone who tells you otherwise fool you.
It would take a complete leap of faith and him exceeding every expectation to be a full time starter this season.

This idiot probably only looks at the box score.

He looks bad at the plate, we need bats.
We are 4 games in and Gio hit .275 last season as a Freshman.
Plus we replaced him with Maurice Hampton.

Hampton needs his ABs, but the ones he’s had so far he’s made some solid contact.
I like Gio in a pinch hitter/runner spot.

BA at this point in the season means nothing. If batter is squaring up balls he is swinging it good. I like most of the guys plate approaches but do think some of the freshman are swinging at bad pitches. I agree that Doughty probably doesn't need to be in the 2 hole because of this. I thought opening weekend Dugas swung at a lot of bad pitches but I tend to believe he was just amped up for opening weekend because last night he showed great plate discipline. I think Doughty, Hampton and Travinski all swing at too many bad pitches but this will only improve with more ABs. Toups has impressed me with his plate discipline for a freshman. I also agree that Gio is probably best suited for late pinch hitting/running or defensive substitution.

Thoracic outlet syndrome is a group of disorders that occur when blood vessels or nerves in the space between your collarbone and your first rib (thoracic outlet) are compressed. This can cause pain in your shoulders and neck and numbness in your fingers.
Patients with arterial thoracic outlet syndrome often require surgical treatment.
Surgery may be performed to remove the first rib and make more room for the vessels and nerves.

I would think Hampton would have a big say in what happens in the Spring. I'm sure it was discussed during his recruitment. It might have more to do with where Hampton sees himself professionally.
BTW does that rib Marilyn Manson thing really work? Just curious.
