I've always felt that we have the sharpest curve in all-time players of any program. Our first 3 (Pete, Shaq and CJ) are (imo) hands down the best of any program, of all time. They are so good, that our top 5 is still arguably the best even though our 4 & 5 are probably significantly behind some of the all time great programs (Kentucky, Duke, UCLA). And after that, it plummets precipitously compared to top level programs with storied histories.

We'd have almost no depth, but our starting 5 would run with anybody.

Mine would be:

PG -- Pete
SG -- CJ
SF -- Macklin(Pettit, if we get to take them as compared to their contemporaries)
PF -- John Williams
C -- Shaq

You could run a number of other forwards in there, or even swap out for another guard, and it would be roughly the same team. When you have CJ draining it from anywhere on the court, Shaq owning the inside, and Pistol Pete just doing Pistol Pete, all you really need are a couple of credible threats that can make easy wide open jumpers (and hopefully play a little defense).

Agree with all, except I would put HiC in place of Singleton. Close call though.

7'0" Yugoslavian dude = Zoran Jovanavich. He was buds with Ricky Blanton but injured himself in a pickup game prior to the 1986 season. Went home instead of sticking it out. Once Nikita Wilson was ruled academically ineligible it left Blanton, a 6'6" small forward who didn't dunk, as the center. It was incredible watching him during the tournament scoring double figures (mostly inside) against John Salley, William Bedford and Pervis Ellison.

I look for a team in addition to individual excellence. In my mind, Pettit/Pete/Shaq are head and shoulders above everyone else in LSU history. Need to fill in roles after that. My greatest regret was "If Livingston could average double digit assists on one leg, what could he have done if he was not hurt?"

1st team
PG Ethan Martin - with Pete, we don't scorer
2G Pete - with a 3 point line? enough said.
SF John Williams - unselfish, all round player
PF Bob Pettit - Nasty and driven
C Shaq - duh, try triple teaming him with this team!

2nd team
PG Chris Jackson - Would be Randy if he had not been hurt.
2G Ronnie Henderson - CJ would be good if not PG
SF Hi-C - money player
PF Rudy Macklin - Outstanding on the boards
C Big Baby - struggled with this one. A lot of one year guys like Cookie/Tree/Gert

All in all, this is an astonishing amount of talent for a football school

Magic Johnson was a pretty good passer too. But of course he was impossible to stop by any guard. especially when he posted up

First team you got right.

Second team:

Glen Davis
Marcus Thornton
Brandon Bass
Derrick Taylor
Stromile Swift

Third Team:

Ethan Martin
Kenny Higgs
Ricky Blanton
John Williams
Howard Carter

So many others could have made the third team as well. Just arbitrary who I picked out of 25 players. I didn't go by just stats but how important they were to their respective teams.

Pettit was so far ahead of Macklin it is a joke. Look at their respective pro careers.

In that sense, yes. But Pettit played in a different generation than Macklin, and did not have his athleticism (from what I've seen). Like I said, if we're casting them based on how they compared to their contemporaries, I'm taking Pettit. But if they just walked out onto a court together, I think Macklin would have the edge. Not necessarily a big one, and I think we'd still have the best starting five with Pettit. Heck, I almost put Tyrus Thomas in there just for the defense (since don't really need any more scoring).

Add CJ and I don't know how they could lose...as long as they distribute the ball effectively. That would be the problem.
