Understatement ... Swat had a nice outside jumper to about 15 feet and was quick as a cat.

I dont see UCLA or UNC's all-time teams beating LSU's. I have no idea how espn came up with that.

Shaq, Pete, and CJ could dominate them 3 on 5

They had an imaginary tournament between all the schools with fans voting who they'd thought would win, and with the ESPN experts giving their opinions on who had better teams. Interestingly, the two experts picked LSU to beat UNC, though they also picked Houston with Drexler and Olajuwon, to beat LSU in the round earlier. My buddy tried to rig the fan voting so LSU beat UNC, and LSU did end up with more votes, but he got found out and declared UNC the winner.

No other school, IMO, could even sniff a better starting 5

Any team with Maravich and Shaq in their prime at the same time would be incredibly hard to beat. I'd like to have Roberts available on the bench to spell Shaq against Kareem and Walton or Chamberlain. We should have a few tall leapers as well so I'd have Thomas and put up with Scales. the other 8: CJ, Macklin, Petit, Hi-C, Bass, E. Martin, L. Mitchell, and Baby. I'd match that team up with anyone.

One change b/c I may not have enough true guards - can substitute out Jerry Reynolds for either T. Thomas or Scales. Reynolds was a long 6-8 and played point sometimes at LSU and in the NBA.

Don't know about a particular roster, but some of my all-time favorites:

Torris Bright
Ronald Dupree
Jabari Smith
Brad Bridgewater
Stromile Swift
Jermaine Williams
Vernel Singleton
Clarance Caesar (will never forget Hawthorne when he used to yell "Ceeeeezer!" and his unorthodox shot)
Ronnie Henderson
Rogers Washington
Maurice "Mo" Carter
Glen "Big Baby" Davis
Tyrus Thomas
Tasmin Mitchell
Lamont Roland
Brian Beshara
Geert Hammink
Justin Anderson (dude if I remember could bury a 3)
Marcus Thornton
Chris Jackson
Paul Marshall
and forgive me, Jaime Brandon

But of course I began watching around 1990 or so.

Come on guys, why does everyone lookover John Williams - - he carried a team to the Final Four. Go back and look at that roster - not very impressive

AT LSU, he was, imo, the 4th best player ever. Pete, CJ, Shaq, John Williams, Rudy

Then Jerry Reynolds, Cook, Ethan Martin, Bass, Thornton in no order

Right...I started listening about the time of Shaq/Stanley/Chris. My first vivid memory of listening to the games was the Loyola Marymount game. Not meaning to disrespect any earlier LSU players. Surprised no one that I'm aware has mentioned Don Redden.

That 1st team ain't gonna work for me without Martin at point. Too many shooters.

Ahhh... Pistol Pete is the greatest passer the game has ever seen...

By the way, no one has mentioned Don Redden as one of the greatest??

Jerry "ICE" Reynolds has to be in the mix along with John "hotplate" Williams.

Ill never forget that duel between Jordan and Reynolds when we played UNC...great stuff.

This.

I'm the only one to mention Ricky Blanton. He deserves a spot no less than 2nd string imo
