Seems like he’s happy now. That’s all that matters.

Awesome the way he dived into the end zone.

That's definitely not an apples to apples comparison.

To me it's a sad story and I have mixed feelings about it all.... interesting to finally get his side of the story though. He mentioned his regrets but I still got the impression that he didn't think most of it was his fault.

Were the odds stacked against him? Maybe early on, but once he got to college and certainly once he got to the league he had every opportunity to be successful. Sounds to me that he just had a hard time maturing as a man and growing up.

I wish him the best and hope he gets the best that life has to offer going forward.

That article is sad, he acknowledges the mistakes he has make but then makes excuses for his mistakes.

I see it differently honestly. At the time they were happening they were excuses to him. But I saw it as I’m owning up to making the excuses.

The guy was incredible at LSU and top 3 all time in my book. Sucks the way he went out but I still think if he had gone to a different team he could have gotten better support and played several years.

Good read. Took a while for him to accept any sort of responsibility.

silly question.

For someone living paycheck to paycheck, the answer is zero. But for someone who makes a lot of money, they should have a lot.

Russell made $39,365,000 over 4 years. Let's say half went to taxes, agent fees, etc. That's $20 million net.

Let's say he spent a few million on houses, cars, etc. Down to $15 million.

Any rational person knows that you don't spend down your principal - you invest it and live off the earnings.

Russell should have about $15 million in the bank (actually a lot more since the stock market went ballistic, up 300% since he stopped playing).

Now look, $4 million is a grand slam for 99% of the population, and if he truly has that safely invested, then that's good - at least it's not down to zero.

But he should have multiples of that.

highly doubt it, unless buy investing it you mean having a football field built in your yard

Top 5? He only had 1 good season.

That "good season" was arguably the second-best season LSU has ever had at QB. Rohan had him in yards in 2001, but fewer TDs, more INTS, and a lower passer rating.

#4 all-time passing yards at LSU
#3 single-season passing yards (2006)
#3 all-time passing TDs
#2 single-season passing TDs (2006) tied with Mauck

I gonna be honest. Some of the things in the article are a little sus. I lost interest when he said this:

I still had to go to my classes. I actually had shredded ligaments in my throwing hand, too. So I’m sitting in them hard-arse school chairs, and I can’t even concentrate.

Like football players go to class at LSU. Hahahaha.

He had a tremendous talent and I would rate him as Top 3 LSU all time qb's. He pissed away his NFL career b/c he had poor work ethic. He received a huge amount of money and probably saw himself retired and lost interest in playing.

One anecdote I remember about his work ethic is when a Raider assistant coach handed him a cd containing football x/o's for him to review at home. Next day the coach asked him if he read it and reviewed it, to which he replied absolutely. The cd was blank.

Good read. No one is perfect and not everyone can handle that life style.

Regardless, the games he played at LSU were some of the most exciting games I ever watched.

He admits in the story that only white people he met prior to college were a couple of teachers yet he is obsessed with race and how white people perceive or mis-perceive him.
