Gotta agree with that. And I suspect Cam will be thinking the same way. If he gets Mett up for this game like he was at the beginning of the year, we're gonna give them fits.

I think Mett should calm down like he was prior to the UF game. He was dialed in before Florida and he even looked a bit shaky the first half of Furman. He's forcing passes and not looking at his check downs or TE who gets open a lot down the middle. I know Dickson is not most athletic guy, but the secondary completely forgets about him sometimes and he is wide open. Mett has to trust that pass, and that player.

Yeah wd shouldn't be playing tight formation early. No first and second down run spamming either. Spread em out early with 3-4 receiver sets. Run off of that and throw to Hill out of that.

3-5 sacks? Alabama is one of the worse in the sec in sacks. They rank 100 with 11 on the season. LSU has 20 and is ranked 22nd.

Alabama has never been a huge sack team while Saban is there. The rely more on putting pressure on the QB to make mistakes anx stuffing the run. I love sacks myself, but I'd take constant harassment on the QB all game over 3 sacks a game. We had both of these every year except the last two. We got tons of pressure last year, buy couldn't make the sack. We've gotten a decent amount of sacks this year outside of UGA, Auburn, but we can't get consistent pressure in the backfield. The one thing that would make this defense a force is getting pressure consistently with only our front four.

The before UF Mett would obviously be preferable for this game. He is a tough dude to figure out mentally.

He should have plenty of confidence though given what he was able to do last year, so there is that.

I think you also have to predict what our offensive strengths are that Saban is going to try to take away and how are we going to respond if he is successful.

What are his offensive strengths that we have to take away and how is he going to respond if we are successful?

Les has played Saban about 6 times. I think he probably has a good feel for how Saban thinks and coaches. The 1st string talent mismatch isn't that big. I think our biggest problem is defensive depth. Our 1st string defense needs to force bama to punt 4 or 5 times.

I totally agree with that gameplan.

but I expect les to do the opposite, because that's what he loves to do.

a leopard can't change his spots.

bama will sell out on stopping the run, and les will be determined to run. then we'll have play-action passing on 3rd down into a blitz.

How much "freedom" do you think that Les will give Cam and allow him to do his "thing"????

I am assuming he meant LSU needs to pass to setup the run, which I totally agree with and that's what LSU has been successful at all year up until we changed it up and tried to run to setup the pass.

Power formations on 1st down have got to go. They are good for picking up 1 or 2 yards, but not on 1st down. Keep 2 or 3 WR sets, make Bama think pass every down. Run Hill right at them.

Completely disagree about the defense. Selling out to stop the run game is a terrible idea considering how our secondary play has been. Unfortunately the defense has been so bad it's hard to think of a good scheme to stop Bama. Anthony Johnson needs to step up and have the game of his life.

Actually it's pretty simple. If we convert on 3rd down, we have a great chance to win. If not, no chance. We stayed in the game last year because of our ability to convert on 3rd down. We were like 11-19 or something ridiculous like that.

95% of Bamas offense is run, play action pass to running backs and tight ends. Screen passes, short passes, draws. They run their wide receivers down field and throw little dink snd dunk passes. That'd how they beat everybody,

Unfortunately, even going back to 2001, Miles has a history of remocing the best player from the gameplan.

See UK 2007 and Ole Miss 2013.

-D should sell out to stop the run game of Bama and make them one dimensional. Even if the secondary gives up a few big plays, that's better than the alternative.
I'm scared even this would not stop the run.

Screen passes?

we ran out of passing down early in the season. Id roll with some of that but hit Hill on wheel routs and such. Lots of play action for these looks.

If we consistently run on first down, i think it will be a long day.

I agree with pass FIRST. No way to win unless we do this, imho.

Agree on the screen passes although I think he means his first short option be that a screen, an outlet to the rb or a quick ou/in to the TE. As for sacks. my theory is that Mett can't plant on his knee, and that he has a knee issue so I expect four sacks.

I TOTALLY agree with this. And yet I think it's futile. We are screwed either way. I say we pin our hopes on making them pass and most of all PHYSICALLY PUNISHING AJ GOLDENHAIR. I want him on his arse. Penalties, late hits, cheap shots be damned. Punishing him is JOB ONE. I want Micah Eugene, Kwon Alexander et al to HURT him. I want the announcers to make a big deal about it and ask if its ethical.

I would throw in the Les/LSU desperation factor. I expect balls to the wall-RISK/REWARD type plays. A fake punt, an onside kick, over the top on 3rd and one, that sort of thing.

I love games of X's and No's.

Yeah, let's abandon the run. That's a good start. And let's play with eight defensive linemen to make 'Bama one dimensional. While we're at it, tell Beckham to fair-catch every punt and instruct Hairston to send his kickoffs out of bounds for fear that they'll be returned 109 yards for a touchdown. Decline every penalty because we don't want to insight 'Bama's players. Oh, and if we win the coin toss, ask the ref if we can defer the option to 2022.

Come on! Line 'em up and play 'em. Just like we did last year. Only this time, let's close the deal!

Sorry. It's Friday and my hands are trembling. I need an adult beverage.

I would love for Mett to put this game away early and let Hill mop up !

That would be so awesome, The Gumps would cry like their is no tomorrow.

I am a huge Les supporter, but if I had to knock him for anything(other than clock management) it would be stubbornly trying to force the run on teams.
Too often he reverts back to that 1970's Big 10/Michigan/Bo Schembechler mentality. It's 2013 Les. Say Neaux to the Beaux!

Against a defense that was straight up borrowed from st mary's school for the deaf and blind. There was no way that anyone doubted the gumps ability to come back- not a good example of a tough game.
