This is a question that I've been wanting to ask the forum for while now.
Assuming Coach O gets fired for whatever reason, Would Aranda be the pick for Interim HC? Or would Steve Ensminger since he's been coaching LSU longer? what would y'all think?

Neither would get the job. LSU won’t hire a HC w/o previous HC experience. This is the policy post-Archer

Interim? Who cares.

ETA: Raining downvotes? FFS, you guys call yourselves Tiger fans? This is a well known requirement for decades now. It dates back to Joe Dean.

quote:

As has been the case in the past, Alleva remained adamant that LSU’s next coach be a sitting head coach or someone who has been a head coach during their career.

“I can’t have someone at LSU without head coaching experience,” he said. “This job is too big. No matter how good you think someone is, you don’t know how good they are.”

They’ve done that more often than hiring w/o HC experience.

If O gets fired it probably will have something to do with the Offense.

From a purely objective standpoint Aranda has a lot to like in a HC. He’s smart. He thinks about football on another level. Innovative. He has an extreme attention to detail.

The players love him. We’ve honestly never recruited the ILB l/MLB position better and he’s been great at coming in and closing the deal in living rooms.

He’s young, and Can give you a long career.

I feel Like he doesn’t just know his defense. He knows what works in a defense in general, and to do that you have to know how offenses work.

Yeah. I also fricking thought that the policy was never to hire a head coach with a losing record post archer as well

Aranda has so many similarities to Saban.

Defensive genius, psychotic work effort, obsessive attention to detail, unanimous respect from his peers, etc.

He would make an excellent head coach.

Then DiNardo wouldn’t have been hired.

Love Aranda as a DC. Question is can he recruit? Is he willing to recruit? That’s the major question mark with Aranda as HC. And, he would definitely need to hire a big time OC.

If I'm being completely objective, I don't think there's any way to know for sure if Aranda would be a better head coach because he's never been given the opportunity. An educated guess would tell you that he would be.

IMO, I would rather take a chance on Aranda since he has at least proven he can coordinate a very successful defense consistently while Orgeron has pretty much proven he can not coordinate the entire team at an elite level. That's where LSU should set it's sights.

pump the brakes. Saban was successful at Toledo, Michigan State, and LSU before Bama hired him.

I love Aranda, but he hasn't coached one single second as a head coach. Coordinator and head coach are completely different jobs requiring different skill sets.

Our next head coach will be, and should be, a proven winner as a HC. After Les' last 3 years and however many years O gets, we'll need to go hire a proven commodity.
