He always seemed like a very likeable kid before this. I don't know that burying the hatchet restores that. And it's not just LSU fans. Even non-sports fans are piling on about what a childish douchebag he's been.

Was it JD's belief his number would be taken out of circulation from the Heisman? If he believed that, then why?

I think the real issue is that JD isn’t vested in LSU or even Baton Rouge
He is a classic mercenary player
Goes where the money is and once he’s done, we don’t see him anymore.
Burrow still comes back to Baton Rouge. He volunteers at a food bank. He has a foundation that contributes to the community. He makes efforts to be a part of the bigger picture

It’s crazy how the media and fanbase blew this out. Tag team champions over here acting like he murdered someone, or broke laws.
All I see here is a kid who wanted more than 3 years no jersey rotation for a whole fricking Heisman that is sitting in Football Ops for all the 5 stars to take pictures with (they don’t grab Burrow’s I checked).
Kiffin is doing what he has to do to keep kids and I respect it. Kelly on the other hand…this is one of the many reasons he isn’t coaching anymore.

I've been watching Quarterback. You can count on one hand where they show LSU. Almost no mention. They show his room at home, no LSU memorabilia. They show his hometown stuff and even a random USC pennant.
I get that everyone else is married, but they show his mom more than Jayden. He just comes off as aloof.
It seems that LSU and ASU were business transactions to get him to the league. That was always the goal. He made it a point as well as his mom to say she has management experience and she didn't need Jayden's money (I guess ironically).
This is all about Jayden's brand being bigger than LSU. If they wanted to pay him again, everything would be fine with his camp.
He is not bigger than LSU and he would not have achieved what he did at ASU, so he owes LSU. He doesn't have to actively recruit for LSU, but his time at LSU belongs to LSU and he was compensated for that. He is no longer at LSU and looks like he considers the transaction complete.
An apology can repair a personal relationship, but this seems like his camp considered it a business relationship. If you can't work out something in business, move on to the next supplier. LSU should do that.
An apology will go a long way to allow a ceremony about 20 years from now when he isn't getting any more recognition.

Regarding Burrow's #9, I don't think anyone asked for it. If there was a consensus 5 star recruit who projected as the best at his position in that class (like Pickett), that had worn said number his whole pre-college career (like Pickett), expected to come in and start day one, and to become an All American (like Pickett), who asked for that number- yeah, I think we issue it.
Lane didn't randomly hand out #5 to a backup.
And note- I just did some google digging...
Apparently DJ Pickett has a #5 tattoo on his left arm, and has had it since before he came here. So that wasn't just a casual request.
