Woodward should offer Chris Beard a deal he can't say no to

Ole Miss is not a storied basketball powerhouse where the LSU job would be a big downgrade. It could be a feasible move and Beard may be open to interest if the price was right. He could easily turn this program around in a hurry and rejuvenate interest by winning.
Not counting Covid season and season Texas let him go, he's made the NCAA tournament 5 of 7 years as a D1 HC, including making a championship game and an Elite 8. He's a marquee coach, and the scandal he got in hot water over has blown over. He's only 51 so plenty of gas still in the tank.
Woodward is supposedly the "big game hunter" who is notorious for opening up the checkbook. Time to stop neglecting MBB and go after a proven winner with skins on the wall. No more mediocrity. MBB deserves better.

Woodward is your biggest problem.

Promise a new arena...and he'd come

Why would he just pick up and move for no reason at all? Some of you make it sound like LSU can just get anyone it wants at any time.
Chris Beard isn't leaving his current job for what would be a lateral move AT BEST just to have to do another rebuild. He isn't from Tickfaw. He has no reason to come here.

I think he’d come depending on what’s available.
Doubt he’s at Ole Miss long. Have a friend who works there and he’s always bitching about lack of attendance, admin / funding, etc.
Don’t think he owns a place there either. Last I heard (few months ago), he was living in the pool house of an owner of a popular bar there.

Pulling big names from schools to make a lateral move or a lesser move is how you end up with these stupid contracts Woodward hands out. You go big game hunting, you gotta make the deal sweet.

Much more money and serious commitments to PMAC/major infrastructure improvements

That's going to be a problem for LSU, competing with other schools with likely more attractive job openings like Indiana, Virginia, FSU, Miami, possibility Villanova, etc.

Neither is LSU.
It’s been 40 years since LSU was a consistently good program. I’m 37 and there have been like 5 good seasons that I can recall.

Well I mean do you want LSU to have a big time basketball coach or not? Gotta do what it takes to get them or else just be glad with McSuckass for years to come.

Dont think Lsu is interested in a new arena. They had tslked about it since 2018 and nothing has started.

Lsu can do better than Chris beard impo

Women’s basketball and gymnastics perform in the same arena and are doing just fine. Alabama’s arena is a dump and Nate Oats is doing just fine.

Closer to 30. LSU had a run of 10 straight tournament appearances that ended with the trip in 93 at the end of the 92-93 season, which culminated 15 straight postseason appearances during which they made it to the Sweet 16 or further, 3 to the Elite 8 or further, and 2 final 4s. It took Brown 7 seasons to get there the first time but it was a different era then.

We had the chance to be bold and go after Beard and opted instead to keep a guy that was clearly not going to make it for what is looking like his most pathetic season yet. That fact should temper everyone's expectations for the next hire. It is just not a priority for our admin.

Or actually do his homework on finding a good young coach instead of continuing to write blank checks
Posted on 2/6/25 at 8:00 am to Jack Crevalle
I'd rather give that money to the football program
