Head coach refusing to fire his controversial assistance is a standard ploy to kickstart negotiations for a settlement

This. Reading comprehension in this thread is very low.

I don't really believe that tidbit in the Athletic article nonetheless. Woody claiming his hand was forced because Kelly wanted to make MORE staff changes

Possible, I just don't believe what the article laid out.

My guess is he wanted to clean house with some of Woodys guys too. That made the meeting go south quickly. Kelly played it perfect, he wanted out and his money.

That's because Kelly knew his ship was sinking so used it to get out.

After Woodward told the head coach to fire his play caller, Kelly fired back that he wanted to make other staff moves Woodward wasn’t comfortable with. The situation then escalated, with the head coach pushing back hard against his boss.

Sloan will be drawing a paycheck from football next year, Garrett Nussmeir will not.

I understood that BK actually wanted to fire other folks, and that was the sticking point. Reading between the lines, I suspect that was either Frank Wilson or maybe Blake Baker

What will really blow this out of the water is if Sloan everyone stays and they win 3 out of 4

Kyle Williams and Corey Raymond, Cortez Hankton are all pretty good coaches. I'd keep those 3 and keep Frank regardless who the next coach is.

This isnt true. Kelly wanted more than Sloan gone and Woodward told him no, then they argued

I’m glad BK is gone, but I somewhat respect BK for standing behind his guys. BK went down with the ship like every respectable captain should do.

How does Joe Sloan continue on knowing Woodward wanted his head to roll?

Well , I will say this , Kelly honored that dude and took the bullet for him. I predict Sloan goes somewhere and is very successful with an offensive line coach of his choosing.
