Yeah, that can happen when you buy players.

Wade showed that having a consistently good basketball program is possible at LSU.
It was. Before he became the worst cheater in CBB & put a black eye on the program.

Hiring coaches at non traditional basketball schools is not all that easy. More specific to lsu, almost impossible given how Will Wade left the program.
You think offering a Basketball HC upper tier money would not have attracted an upper tier HC.
Kelly wanted a chance in his career to win a Natty. A bushel of greenbacks guaranteed him accepting the offer.
Mulkey wanted to come home to be with her family (aging Mother).
A basketful of Cash made the hire easy.
Same with Johnson. LSU, since Bertman, has proven to give a HC a chance to win a Natty.
Woody looks like the Savant of ADs. Unless those three coaches fail to win a Championship.

No. Not with the program in limbo

Hate to tell you, but LSU basketball does not have near the national appeal as football and baseball, even under normal circumstances. On top of that, there are very few coaches who have proven themselves as winners who would be willing to leave the situation they are in. There's a lot more schools willing to dish out money for a good basketball coach than football or baseball and you don't have to necessarily be at a power 5 school to have success or get paid well. It's very obvious some of yall either are ignorant of college basketball outside of LSU or vastly over-estimate LSU's reputation in college basketball

Statistical quirks????
Did you think we would run Wade off, gut the program, hire a new coach, and win an NCAA playoff game? I didn’t.
Btw, Will Wade didn’t win a playoff game last year. He won one the prior year, and none the year before that (no tourney).
Wade or his tesm only won 3 NCAA games in his five seasons at LSU. It’s not as if LSU was a powerhouse.
And I wish Woody would have kept Wade, suspended him for five games and stayed the course.

Careful all the diehard football and baseball fans will say that Woodward is the basketball hiring GOAT.

Did you actually read the post? The question was much broader than Wade. It was looking at Woodward's fully body of work at every school he's been at.
The program under Wade won a post season game (either NIT or NCAA Tournament) every season except for 2020 (COVID) and 2022 after he was fired.

And it’s somehow Woodward’s fault that didn’t continue? Was he coaching the team or something?
Both Washington & A&M have almost no basketball history. You keep talking about expectations but they are already low for both programs. Do you follow ball outside of lsu? Sincerely asking
I am indifferent on Woodward, don’t really care either way. If Wade would have left lsu in a better spot then Woodward could have openly sought a better candidate. End of story
Woodward oversaw how resources were allocated. Before Woodward got to Washington Romar had that program rolling. Woodward got there, it went in the tank.
A&M saw no major improvement while Woodward was there.
At LSU he inherited a program that won the SEC and proceeded to qualify for the next 3 NCAA Tournaments. Now that his fingerprints are on it, it has gone in the tank.
There is a trend here...

How did Arizona manage to make such a good hire while their program was more in limbo than LSU. Hell, they had an assistant coach go to prison.

1. You don't know if McMahon is a good hire yet
There is no way you believe this.
Woody's strategy is throwing insane money at top name coaches. Not saying that is good or bad, but when it doesn't work out, we are left with a huge bill to pay.

So Woodward should get credit for the good seasons Wade had at LSU while Woody was AD, correct?

My gosh where do you idiot fans come from?
You literally just ignored all the facts that Woodward has made great hires so far in football, baseball and women’s basketball and yet you want him fired or step down over this stupid Will Wade situation. That would be beyond stupid to want Woodward to step down considering what he has done so far as a whole to the LSU athletics since Joe Alleva left.
Go suck Will Wades dick at Mcneese. Woodward is staying put as he should be.

No it wasn’t Woody’s full body of work. It didn’t cover his time at LSU when we were winning. That was left off.
If you are going to blame him for Romar’s losses then he should get credit for Wade’s successes while he was AD, right???

If he would have extended Wade, absolutely. Instead, he made the decision to fire the most successful basketball coach he's ever had as an AD. And Wade never had his support.
I'm looking at Romar's time after Woodward extended him and served as his AD.

Getting A&M to a NCAA tournament is a pretty big accomplishment for that program
They have 0 Elite 8's in their program history and this was only their 15th appearance ever. So far I'd say Buzz is doing positive things there, especially their turnaround in conference play from OOC this season.
Billy Kennedy's tenure there was pretty weird. His last season was bad but not terrible (14-18, 6-12 still in SEC play) and he made 2 Sweet 16's (2 of their 6 ever) in 2 of his last 4 seasons but Woodward fired him

quote:You are worse than madking. That former 4* was only that back in 2019 when he committed to Cincinnati. Couldn't make it there so he transferred to UCSB where he played in a handful of games before winding up at McNeese. "Former 4*" is carrying a lot more weight than it should.
Didn't catch that. McNeese has a top 10 portal class with a former 4* and 3*.
What are the odds, McNeese ends up with a better HS and/or portal class than MM?

LSU is not Arizona. Will ask again, do you watch any other ball besides lsu?

That's kind of the point, I don't know what happened, but it resulted in a good basketball program going into the tank.
Kind of like the same trend we have at LSU right now.
