re: With Utah out is the coveted 1 spot really that important?

Don't be stupid. The lsu d played great against a&m last week, I was impressed with aranda. That said, arandas scheme and results have been highly inconsistent this year, given the talent and experience.

OU/Baylor or Clemson?

You 100% want OSU to play Clemson first.

t's less important I would agree, but I think I would take OU over Clemson. I think Clemson's linemen are superior to OU.
I would prefer Clemson. OU has a running threat at quarterback in Hurts. I think we match up better with Clemson.

It was on here before.
#1 seed plays OSU or Clemson only once in the title game.
#2 seed has to play both of them.

100% disagree. I'd prefer OU. Not near the team as Clemson.

Without question. That said, if we stay at 2, I’m very happy OSU will have to play OU (assuming they win) and Lincoln Riley with a month to prepare than fricking Utah. Thank God they lost and were exposed. It would have basically been a semi-final bye for #1.

Oh, btw, I just overheard on Sportscenter ( not an analyst, just an anchor reading some percentages), but they said 2-loss Georgia still has a better chance of making it than Baylor should they beat OU today. I find that kind of hard to believe, but maybe.

I may be the only one, but as bad as OUs defense is, I thing they are a worse matchup for LSU than clemson.
Hurts is the kind of QB that gives this LSU defense fits and I could see LSU being in a shootout vs OU and it’s nit impossible to lose that kind of game.
Clemson is more traditional and that is an easier matchup for our defense.

I think the reason the #1 spot was coveted was to avoid Clemson, not to avoid Utah. So I don't think the Utah loss affects that at all personally.

I agree. These guys aren't even looking at ou's results this year. They have been very fortunate in several games against lesser competition.
Those comparing ou to Clemson are clueless. Clemson has been playing great the last half of the season, defending champs, 30+ win streak, much better defense than OU, better running back, better qb, and know how to win BIG games.

100% agree. OU will put up points on Ohio State or LSU. BUT I 100000% trust either of our defenses to get multiple stops while OU isn't able to get stops and pull away and win by 20+.
It doesn't matter if it is Ohio State or LSU vs. OU, I see a final of something like 56-31.

Yes and play OU/Baylor in Atlanta

Utah had about as much business being #5 as tOSU has at being #1. Looked like they belonged in the former Division II ranks
Posted on 12/7/19 at 8:12 am to Powerman
OU is more tested than Clemson. Now watch for OSU vs Clemson.
Posted on 12/7/19 at 8:13 am to Powerman
Clemson is 11 points better than Oklahoma. Big difference.

Clemson would skull drag Baylor or OU.
The 1 seed is glorified bye week and the 2 seed is essentially another national title game. It matters.

3 LSU
4 Oklahoma
5 Ohio State
6 Florida
7 Auburn
8 Texas A&M
9 Texas
10 Clemson
LSU has already beaten 5 of these teams this season and will have likely beaten 8 of them if they win the Natty undefeated.
Add in the rest of the top 25 and LSU has 3 more wins. But those three plus USCe have to be the most underperforming SEC teams in this top 25 list. But I guess you could make the case that they do have to play their SEC games against 4 teams in the top 25 of the list
quote:
11 Penn State
12 Michigan
13 Oregon
14 Notre Dame
15 Florida State
16 USC
17 Tennessee
18 Washington
19 South Carolina
20 Nebraska
21 Stanford
22 Mississippi State
23 Miami-FL
24 Ole Miss
25 Arkansas
So consider that every team in the SEC west has a 4 year recruiting average in the top 25 and LSU's permanent SEC East opponent is in the top 10.
Here is the breakdown top 10 in ()
SECW - 7 (4)
SECE - 4 (2)
SEC Total - 11 (6)
Big Ten - 4 (1)
ACC - 3 (1)
PAC 12 - 4 (0)
Big 12 - 2 (2)
Ind - 1 (0)
We can argue who plays the better teams week in and week out but there is no doubt that SEC teams, west teams in particular, line up against better talent week to week.

Yeah, preseason polls are meaningless.

That's not a pre-season poll, that's a ranking of recruiting averages over the last four years. I think he's trying to demonstrate the relative levels of raw talent that teams are bringing to the table. It's a useful comparison to a degree, but obviously limited. I don't think anyone would rather play Utah than Miami, for example.
