If you read between the lines at the time, it was clear the NCAA staffers on the case told LSU they would go easy on the school but Wade had to go.

I didn’t want Wade to lose his job but you can’t lie to your bosses and refuse to work with them on the situation. That’s fireable 100/100 times in any line of work

Even with NIL, the coaches are not paying the players with the money coming out of their bank accounts. Wade was an idiot who left that paper trail leasing back to him. To answer the question : no Scott did not jump the gun. Also let's move on. He is not the coach.
