It’s almost non existent. I understand his job is to coach basketball but I wish he put more effort in interacting with the students. I hate to say it but Bruce Pearl does a great job doing this on social media and at the games. Although already a fan favorite, Coach O also does it to an extent.

I think it would help draw more students to the games and make them feel like they’re a part of the whole thing.

What specifically does Coach O do to create student excitement that Will Wade isn't doing?

I dont think it'd be a real good idea for him to have relations with students. Also, his wife would probably be pretty upset by it

Sorry, when I read this all I could think of was "is that allowed on school property" from Beavis and Butthead...

I agree. Feel like it would really help to build a culture around the program

WW once picked up students in a golf cart and drove them to their classes.

Ever watched one of his press conferences where he specifically calls on the students to show up or gives them props for making a difference? Meanwhile WW yesterday pretty much said that the crowd doesn't matter which even if it doesn't, that's not a way to motivate your home crowd.

It's the small things also like singing the alma mater with the student section that also helps.

WW spent one week driving kids to class on a golf cart and giving them donuts.

Our students are just weak-arse basketball fans. Nothing will change that besides sustained big time winning and even then it'll be tough.

Sucks, but it's true.

How many games has Coach O been to? It is actually the other coaches that helps with this at other programs. Dale Brown didn’t do anything specific to interact with the students. He in fact squelched a lot of stuff that happened during games like tossing stuff during games.
The fact that LAST SEASON LSU won the SEC should be more than enough for the students to stand in line for hours to wait to enter the games like in the 80’s.
The students don’t have a sense of pride in the basketball program and can’t get drunk or tail gate before like for football. It isn’t a party, thus it isn’t worth their time. Pretty simple to be honest.
When there wasn’t cell phones and every game televised, issues like leaving at 1/2 time and attendance wasn’t an issue. The students are spoiled.

well, he probably said this as motivation to his team, b/c he's done trying to motivate the students who rarely ever show up.
There have been games this year where there was literally less than 10 people in the student section. I don't care if i'ts winter break or LSU football has done well or you're playing a crappy team, the student section earlier in the year was beyond pathetic at times.

And the student section will never move to the traditional position the rest of the country uses b/c they don't show up consistently enough, and even when they do show up, like they will tonight, there's only about 25 of them that will actually make noise and get crazy consistently, until they find a moment to yell STTDB, then they will all chime in.

They suck, and this program deserves better.

They've got that obnoxious and well worn "1-2-3-Clap Clap" at every foul shot down pat though. Way past time for that to be gone.

It's easy to see who does and doesn't attend games in this thread.

“We need the student section to get involved!!”

Student section gets marginally involved.

“That’s old do something else!!”

Ever watch one of will wades? After every game he praises the weak arse student section when he should be calling them out. Literally after every home game he praises them.

Wade has done all of that. And he did it three years ago. Hell, his first year at LSU he basically agreed to every speaking engagement offered to him. At some point it is on the students. My god, what the frick do you need? You get into the games for free. Many times they've given the students food and other crap as an incentive to show up. The team won the conf. last year and is competing for the conf. title once again this year. There's a freaking DJ in the student section because the pep band is "too boring".

The guys also has to coach the team and recruit at some point. He can't spend a chunk of time every week begging a bunch of kids, with minimal responsibility and time constraints, to show up to watch a WINNING basketball team.
