Relax. Daddy's coming home. Boot Up!

It was my opinion at the time that firing Will Wade would be far more consequential to the program than any potential sanctions the NCAA might levy. I still stand by that assessment.

We had to save football so we could play in the ReliaQuest and Texas Bowl.

Tiger Rag magazine is simping HARD to bring back McMahon. Today's article "LSU legend Rudy Macklin says LSU should keep McMahon".
They don't believe any of their bullshite. They are just trying to take the contrarian position in hopes of generating clicks. That's because there is NO logical argument that a school should retain a coach with the worst (SEC) winning % in program history as opposed to trying to rehire the guy who had the best winning % at the school. Take the name of the school out of the equation and think about how mind numbingly stupid that argument is.

Wade was the scapegoat, so football didn't receive any meaningful infractions.
This is true. Almost conspiracy-like, LSU was under a microscope and being ridiculed at all levels. It felt like everyone was trying to disparage and make an example out of LSU.
Unlike others…E.g., Bill Self and Kansas, who were dealing with much more egregious allegations and didn’t do a thing.
Whether conscious or unconscious, placing LSU in the spotlight, took the pressure off of the basketball blue bloods.
Man, do I still despise Dick Vitale.

No one is to blame for wade getting fired except wade. He was incredibly stupid in his shady endeavors. 5 level 1 violations and they had the evidence.

Very but fat Woody was always scheming up a new way to steal money so he never paid much attention to that part of the job.

Well there wasn’t much outside of the girl, if there were he’d have been nailed for it. Not nipping that situation in the bud isn’t 100% proof of guilt, there’s an explanation for it, but it’s very, very hard not to assume guilt there.

Wrong. Was found "guilty" of 3 level 1 violations. 1 was extortion by a former players fiance, which happened at VCU. 2 were "failing to cooperate with an investigation" and "failing to promote an atmosphere of compliance". That's all they had. He accepted a 10 game suspension to put everything behind him and is about to go to his 3rd NCAA tournament in 3 seasons of coaching since LSU. LSU self imposed a program death penalty and hasn't sniffed the NCAA tournament.

I think the extortion happened here but it was the girlfriend of an outgoing player, not one of his. They never revealed who these people were so you might be right but the txt are public and I think time stamps showed it happened the first summer here before the season or started then. I could be misremembering.

It’s honestly crazy to think fat Scott just rolled over like he did.
LSU has tons of high powered expensive lawyers and the ncaa had already been getting its arse kicked in court.
Kansas told them frick off and the ncaa left them alone.
No way was the ncaa going to really go after our football program knowing a large dominate sec school would absolutely take it to court and win.

Woody always planned on getting rid of Wade from the moment he was hired. Just let that sink in for a second.

I don't defend Woodward much, but I don't believe this. He had PLENTY of time to get rid of Wade between April of 2019 and March of 2022, yet didn't until just after the NOA was issued.
That's not to say Woodward was the biggest supporter of Wade, but saying he wanted to get rid of Wade from the moment he was hire is ridiculous. If anything, there was no strong sense of loyalty towards Wade by the time the NOA was issued, which made the decision (in Woodward's mine) relatively easy.

Yea I agree with that. Woody was a meddler type that thought he was coach of all sports and he only got the job because will wade had the prior AD fired.
I really don’t know how anyone could think this guy might be the best AD in America like people were calling him once you start to dig in on him.
The more you look at his tenure here it’s good ole boy la politics and a lot of burning good booster money on paper hires.

If this is the case, I would like LSU to acknowledge this in some way. I am a reasonable person and will accept this if true and move on, but message board speculation is not a sufficient substitute for stakeholder communication.
It's been said for years by enough people that would know that sort of thing that that is LSU's way of acknowledging it. It's not message board speculation whatsoever.

WOODY wrecked football, basketball, held back $ for Baseball, and was terrible running the Athletic Department. His contracts were terrible and not structured properly
Posted on 3/11/26 at 9:59 am to Houtexlandscape
But hey he made us good at WBB, gymnastics and a bunch of other sports no one on this board has ever been to in their lives.
So he just wrecked our big sports so we could be Stanford light

That's long been a popular narrative, but I don't really know how true it actually is. The NCAA has been proven less, and less, meaningful with each passing year. So much so that the SEC commissioner recently acknowledged there are SEC schools who want to abandon it altogether. The investigation of LSU (including football) was conducted through the IARP process. LSU wasn't the only school investigating by the IARP. What ultimately resulted was none of the schools investigated by the IARP received significant sanctions...including LSU. The NCAA hated the IARP process so much that the NCAA disbanded it after its initial "trial run".
As you said hindsight is 20/20 but LSU was facing multiple issues including multiple Title IX problems in multiple sports, Les Miles sexual harrassment, Vadal Alexander scandal, Drake Davis/Verge/Sharon Lewis, Frank Wilson sex harrassment, and then you get to the Will Wade issue where he was dumber than the others and not only got caught on tape but had money transfer info/data.
NCAA was going for loss of institutional control due to the problems across multiple sports. The issues were so bad and widespread LSU had to hire an outside firm to investigate and report. To be fair a lot of this stuff was federal law issues and not necessarily NCAA privy but when presented with the litany of issues it is well known that LSU took the "plea bargain" path and self enforcement to make as much of this shite to go away as possible.
If you recall a lot of people wanted Ed Orgeron fired for cause and probably could have been but LSU opted to pay his whole buyout. Ed was a potential key witness in these sex harrasment cases and Sharon Lewis $60 mil lawsuit so it does not take a rocket scientist to keep Ed on LSU side of the case rather than a fired ex-employee and hostile witness.

Bill Self told the NCAA and FBI to frick off and won a national championship a few months later
