I didn't compare him to Valentine big guy.

Here is a link to the sizes of the top defensive tackle players in this past draft
Many of those guys are more likely 3 techniques
Really not all that comparable to nose tackles who are generally larger
That being said the 330 range you mentioned is probably a good playing weight for him

Having a bad attitude with coaches and support staff do not a good teammate make.

quote:350 seems a little high to me, but not excessive. "yellow flag" territory approaching red. And have to remember, linemen in college (both sides), typically have trouble maintaining a weight through the season. It's not unusual at all to lose 10 lbs through the first 1/2 of the season and sit there, no matter how good the nutritional program. Combination of student life and the rigors of practice.
Of the top 25 NFL prospects, only two of them were north of 320 lb. One of those included a first-round pick that is 340 lb, but is 6 ft 5 in tall.
So many people in here being okay with a player that is 6 ft 3 in tall and north of 350 lb seem to have no worries about his future NFL stock.
If a lineman drops more than 15 lbs you have an issue (likely nutritional) or gains let's say 5 lbs you also have an issue. One thing they are watching now a days as far as players like Shelvin and worry about gaining weight is sleeping habits and cortisol production. It's a particular problem with student-athletes.
If he can start fall camp at 350, no more, then he will probably be ok. If he were to start at 340, that's about right. If he gains from start of fall camp through season- we have an issue. His stamina will decline through the season.

What is the date of fall camp beginning? I remember when RB Craig Ironhead Haywood played for the Saints he also had a weight problem and the club always threating to fine him, then they just said: "it's not what he weighs it's how he plays". He played pretty well for the Saints back then. IMO Shelvin will be just fine.

As long as they have depth and don't run into injury problems on the line. If he is forced to play more than 30 snaps they will be in trouble.

From Dandy's June 7th report:
From 345 to 335 for a guy like Tyler is a good dump or a quarter of a football game.

Other players who I’ve heard about include nose tackle Tyler Shelvin who is down to 345 pounds and is recovering well from a minor ankle surgery he had right after spring ball. Coach Orgeron would like to get Shelvin down to 335 pounds. I’ve also heard that newcomers Chris Curry (RB) and Dare Rosenthal (DT) pass the eye test with flying colors.
From 345 to 335 for a guy like Tyler is a good dump or a quarter of a football game.

Orgeron is talking about real weight.
