Will Tiger Stadium fill up this year?
Posted by mattytiger123 on 9/21/22 at 4:12 pm431
MSU last Saturday got loud, but there were lots of empty seats. I know the issues with traffic, parking, concessions, 5 PM kickoff, affordability, etc. but still expect Tiger Stadium to fill up for big in-conference games (like 2018 & 19). MSU was BKs first SEC game, at home… a pivotal game for this season, yet it was painfully empty in certain sections. I just don’t see Tiger Stadium filling up unless we’re 4-1 heading into Tennessee. Drop a game to Auburn and the fans won’t make it out.
I’m wondering yalls thoughts because I have friends who are thinking about making the trip from Tennessee, but want the real Death Valley experience, not a half-empty offshoot like Auburn and A&M last year or MSU last week.
Thoughts?
ETA: got the schedule wrong. Forgot UT is before Florida

Tiger Stadium needs three things for it to be it's best version of itself
1 - LSU fans have to genuinely believe in the lead up and during the game that they can actually lose. Maybe not necessarily an underdog but that losing is a legit and very real possibility
2 - The game has to mean something...not just pride but something has to be riding on the outcome of that game
2 - The game has to be close in the 4th quarter
If LSU beats Auburn, the Tennessee game (regardless of what time it is) will have everything it needs to be for a special experience. The score just needs to be close late in the game.

We never should’ve expanded the stadium

Is this the 1st year you have attended games? Major games fill up. Minor games do not. It is all based on fan perception and team success. The tickets are sold and LSU is making money hand over fist.

Did the east upper deck ever fill up on Saturday? I caught a glimpse on TV at beginning and the south end of it was pretty empty...was very surprised given it was SEC opener.
Overall, how full was the east upper deck?

Good points, but I think more than anything people need to believe in and be proud of the direction of the program. That'll create the enthusiasm that gets people to let it all hang out and say frick it I don't care that I won't be asleep until 3 AM.
eta. soon.

I think eventually they’re going to need to turn the uppers into some kind of premium seating option or drop prices up there to like $10.

But even against the like of Florida or Auburn....if/when LSU jumps up big in a game they are favored in and the crowd doesnt think it will be competitive, the stadium empties at halftime.

There were people heading to the exits with a 1 pt lead and 13 min left in the 4th qtr last week... some people are just not invested fans.

I think that was the case once the magic returned (late 90's)...people were hungry for a competitive team. Now, people want to be elite and a team that would have filled the stadium in 1996 won't do so in 2022 after three national titles with one being just three years ago

TV, internet, phones, traffic, crime.....people have other choices today!
All stuadiums, across the country, are less populated.....even Saban bitches about people leaving early.

Southern was a sellout and announced attendance exceeded capacity by 100+ people.

Season tickets from 2010-14… been to at least one game every year since 03 except 2020. I’m familiar, but the sec games used to fill regardless.

I am not saying that every close game will provide a magical Tiger Stadium experience BUT every magical Tiger Stadium experience has to be close.

Tiger Stadium is never completely full as in getting 100,000+ people into the stadium. On the rare big game and 90,000 or so people are in the stadium it looks full because the fat people taking up two seats are crammed together more.
At one point in the early 2010s LSU released the actual attendance numbers for the past several seasons and the numbers were shockingly low. The attendance numbers were in the Reveille but that article has been lost to time.

Yeah, I mean it's relative to what level of success makes the fanbase proud.

2019 was the best season we'll ever have and the only games that were legitimately fully were maybe Florida and Texas A&M. It will never fill up unless it's a top 10 matchup (even then sometimes it won't, see 2019 Auburn for example).
I think if we go into Tennessee 4-1, there will be a very solid crowd of 90k+ and then obviously if we went into the Bama game with one loss it would be packed.

Sure it will
Look at 2018 Georgia.
