Hasn’t all year and first game in post season throws a complete game, was this Jay saving his arm for the post season during the season?

Don’t think so. I think it’s just about efficiency. He’s a swing and miss pitcher. So he tends to throw more pitches. He’s thrown into the 100’s pitches most of the season.

As long as he is in the 120 pitch range, why not?

If you think he shouldn’t explain why?

Consistently throwing 120 isnt smart, that should be enough reason

All depends on the score, ROB, hand orientation of the batter, etc.

Its more than just pitch count and how he feels.

Throwing 101 MPH on his last pitch is impressive

Ben McDonald says hold my beer.

He has a max 3 games left, you better believe he will. Johnson said that he wouldn’t use him as a reliever but he misunderstood the question because only Skip and Paul would pull that crap like the did with Ben and Lewis Coleman.

Frankly, Skenes should want the ball longer and there really isn’t that much load on him this season. 100 pitches isn’t shite unless you’re max effort. If he is then take a couple MPH off and learn to pitch better. This is why he will be a reliever in MLB to start like they were discussing yesterday. He can’t command 4 pitches.

Tulane strikes out a lot which I’m guessing helped keep his pitch count down. Also had a couple do’s.
I saw OSU did what most west coast teams do when they come to the Box and looked like an offensive powerhouse. Maybe they would have worked Skenes more than Tulane and gotten him out in 6th like most sec teams did…possibly played into decision to use him against Tulane.

For a season not just a few games. He is a competitor and wants to win. He wants the ball for the last few times of his college career. He rested all season with that pitch limit.

I would think Jay would let any of the starters throw a complete game if possible.

He has a 100 million dollar arm and has thrown a typical 100 to 110 most games. Thats a normal heavy load for a starter. Not a fan of guys that throw hard throwing 120 or more. Usually compromises their effectiveness the next few times out

Doubt it. I don’t think JJ knows what he is doing

He also threw 88 pitches in 3.2 innings but had 7 full days to rest. If he wants to be a 100 MM pitcher, he needs to command his breaking pitch and throw it to multiple places on the edges of the zone. He doesn’t need to throw 100. He needs command of 3-4 pitches, which he doesn’t have. Otherwise, he will end up being a middle reliever.

This post has the same feel as when Happy Gilmore hit a hole in one and said, “That was so much easier than putting. I should just try to get the ball in one shot every time.” Pitching a complete game isn’t something that Skenes will be doing down the road. No one else that he faces will let him throw 9 innings on 120 pitches. Better teams will work the count and he’ll continue to give 6-7 great innings. Yesterday was a great pitching performance. Let’s enjoy it for what it is.

Nolan Ryan threw 235 in a game. But not everyone is Nolan Ryan.

I would agree with you early in the season. Not right now, at best he has 3 starts or so left. If he’s still throwing 100-101 at pitch 120 like yesterday, zero reason not to stretch him out.

Depends on the aggressiveness of the opposing batters. If they are working counts no shot. You have to average less than 14 pitches per inning to throw a complete game at 120 pitches.

Considerring coach burned him game one of the regional against 19-40 Tulane ; he probably won’t pitch another game for lsu and we don’t have to worry about this question.

Trolling - but probably true.
