And he was probably the only one ever. We all know that no other players then or today would dare do that.

Lloyd Peever
I was there the day in 1992 when he took one off the forehead off the bat of an Ole Miss player and spent quite a few minutes on the ground. That was the most scared for an injured player that I think I've ever been.
But baw made a nice recovery and was back pitching a few weeks later.

That guy could pitch as evident by his .83 whip.. You don’t need to throw 103 to be a great pitcher. 116 to 20 K/bb is all you need to know he did all that and missed several games because he was beamed by a come-backer. To this day I have never seen a more dominant pitcher at LSU For a single season. Not even McDonald or Skenes.
For those that went to the games then, you saw and know that when he took the mound there was zero chance the opponent had.
Arm issues got him otherwise I believe he would have been a Greg Maddux. Unreal command of multiple pitches.

But when people mention the greats at LSU they will rattle off at least 5-6 names before they mention Larson because he only played one year here.
Larson wasn't even the best player in the LSU infield in 1997

that was a rocket. Scary as hell. I always laugh when people talk about the most dominant pitcher at LSU and don't mention Peever. Personally I think it's hard to pick one.
McDonald was a beast and a gamer...pitched against A&M and then came back in 2nd game to get us to Omaha.
Peever was incredible that year.
Sirotka gets hardly any love but he pitched a hell of a lot of innings and complete games one year.
Ogea was a beast.
Nola was one of the best "pitchers" I have ever watched.
It's hard to compare them b/c the eras have changed. McDonald struck out 17 (maybe more) gators one day and at the time that was unheard of bc strike outs weren't as prevelant then. I wonder how many he would strike out in this era.

Bregman isn't top 3 either

Skip said Peever had the s single greatest year. He coached all those guys except Nola (dead bats) and Skenes.
When he got the ball, it was over for whomever they played. His command was just ridiculous with all those pitches.

Agreed. Sadly he was never on a winning team in Omaha to cap off his legacy. And if memory serves me correctly, he was pretty dreadful in the postseason his final year here until he got that big late hit over ULL in the Supers.

If Skenes goes to the majors and kills it like he should, he will be more top-of-mind for LSU fans unlike Larson after his cup of coffee in the bigs saw him balloon up to 300 pounds.
This.
What he does the remainder of this season and in his pro career will determine his legacy among LSU fans.
As evident by the OP, everyone talks about McDonald and Nola. But there is a strong argument to be made that Lloyd Peever had a more dominant season than either of those guys at LSU. Peever never made it to the majors though and his team (1992) didn't make it to the CWS. That team is even more forgotten because it was sandwiched between two national championship teams.
If LSU makes the CWS and (hopefully) wins a NC, Skenes will live on in LSU lore forever. Even if LSU doesn't win the CWS, if Skenes has a great pro-career he will be remembered as one of the legends of LSU baseball.

I love Alex but his college numbers were pedestrian compared to those three guys.

If my memory is correct he was hit in first game of DH...i think we still played 2 games sat (9 inn/ 7inn) and 1 on sunday back then.

I remember Larson taking the Rice (ACE reliever) yard in the 97 CWS. The anouncers pretty much buried us when they brought him (reliever) in with a 1 run lead for RICE. I think he threw 100 mph. Larson cranked it!
He does deserve more credit than he gets for that year.

Allot will depend on his pro career. Our two previous one year great players,
Larson and Peever, had short and no pro career.
