You can tell he is 18 while the dude he is blocking was 21

However he stood up to them and did a great job. We have one more year till a dominate line

Emory Jones will be in there before we know it

He got pushed around by Jared Verse a little but he held his own at other times.

They highlighted him getting beat once for a sack, if I remember, but if. I remember right, , most pressure came from the other side

Campbell got beat on a inside move but for a true freshman he did ok but Cameron Wire looked like burnt toast all game. Difference I do believe is Campbell will get better as the season goes on but Wire probably won’t.

Outstanding for a true freshman.

If he was an 8th year Senior like Austin Deculus then I'd say he had a rough night but considering he's a true Freshman I'd say he did good overall. Of course he's going to have growing pains in his first season. Especially once SEC play starts.

I don’t think he’ll be the only one who gets pushed around by Verse this year.

Just saying that dude is gonna be a dawg.

ProFootballFocus graded Campbell as the best overall LSU OL performance Sunday night:

Overall/Pass Block/Run Block

Dellinger 56.6 / 85.7 / 50.2
Miles Frazier 57.2 / 57.6 / 54
Anthony Bradford 56.9 / 20.1 / 69
Will Campbell 59.5 / 46.2 / 66.7
Cameron Wire 52.8 / 40.5 / 59.07

Not great numbers but not bad for a freshman considering he was going up against a most likely first round defensive end Jared Verse. In fact during the game Verse switched from Campbell to Wire to get better penetration.

Wire will probably need TE and/or RB help for most all SEC games. I'm just glad it's on the right side of the line where JD can see the rush coming. With that said Campbell needs to continue to get better and I believe he will.

JD is left handed.

Edit. Never mind. I’m an idiot.

Verse is the guy we were trying to get to come here. Dude is going to be a high draft pick.

quite often a coach is scouting an opponent or another player and is blown away by a kid who was overlooked by the recruiting services. Verse is making him some money right now and setting up his future.

I think Campbell struggled a bit early. He got blown up by a bull rush early in the game that looked to really surprise him. Later, he got beaten for a sack. As the game wore on, he seemed to really get his legs under him and begin to play well. I think he will be fine and is already one of the better linemen on this roster. He'll be a good one.

He looked like a true freshman starting his first game at LT against a P5 opponent
