true, but pretty sad.

I get tired of people on this board referring to how many "stars" a person HAD in high school after they have been under our coaches for 2-3 years. It is IRRELEVANT. Last year, as Jacob Hester carried our team, there were consistently people on this board referring to Hester only having 2 or 3 stars (in 2003-who cares?) and KW having 5 and we need to get KW in the game instead of Hester. When one thinks with this mentality, you are putting higher value on the judgement of recruiting services, who rank based on potential, than the judgement of LSU coaches, who watch these players EVERY DAY in practice. WHO CARES what Jacob Hester was ranked in 2003? I care who can help us WIN the next game. I hope that most true Tiger Fans feel the same way. Thoughts?

The recruiting rankings have been empirically validated. There is an extremely consistent correlation between recruiting rankings and final AP rankings. It is no coincidence that LSU, Florida, USC, Texas, and Oklahoma (the recent national champions) all have average recruiting rankings in the Top 10 over the last seven years.

Moreover, all but one of LSU's recent first round draft picks were four or five stars coming out of high school/JC. I believe that the only exception was Buster Davis, who was a three star. Spears, Clayton, Bowe, Russell, Addai, Dorsey, etc. were all four or five stars.

Yes, there are exceptions like Hester, but he isn't the rule. Stars matter.

Going back to USC. Why would one sign there when the odds are you will be sitting pine. Can you imagine the senior and juniors that have been working there butts off and the coach starts a small true freshman over the herd of established TBs??? that would tick me off. Go to another school where you have the chance to show your stuff.

When you have a back rush for over 1000 yards in a season its hard for me to call it a running back by committee. I think that is a phrase the media uses but Miles gives the ball to the hot hand and as the season goes on that hand is more and more of the same guy.

Always boggles my mind how Ford is left out of conversations considering the future of LSU RBs.

It's all about the "stars" - Ford is a legitimate, bruising, pounder of a back. I don't know if he can block or catch out of the back field, but he is ready to run between the tackles and over the LBs/Secondary.

In Crowton's system, it would be very surprising for a true freshman TB to play a lot. The combination of the early learning of the playbook, physical maturity, running as a single back with 4 wideouts, and adjusting to the pressure to the big-time college Saturday scene is too much, even with the most talented. KW did it and give him credit!!

I believe ADDAI and HESTER are the only two RB's on a game time roster for any NFL teams FYI

What about Kevin Faulk? or Dominick Davis?

Not nearly to the extent that the judgment of Coach Miles and Coach Crowton has.

bullshite

people brought up hester being a 2-star in support of him and the "hard worker" mythos, not to justify KW

Having one featured back can spell disaster for a program. Look at OSU now the Bennie has gone down they no longer look like a top five team. We have been lucky we haven't sustained any major injuries like what happen to Alley and Justin.

To be a big time program, and incase you missed it that is what we are, you have to have depth at all positions INCLUDING running back.

Right on brother!

that is right, depth everywhere is needed to be a special elite program..

Beanie Well is too valuable to OSU....Just like Moreno maybe at UGA, although they have a great stable of backs...

Players come to LSU because they want to win and play in TS...Why not LSU?

So what we share the ball....

I like to see a lot of talent get their shot at carries

Steven Ridley looks pretty sharp to me also..

I hope KW can learn to lower his pads and be more versatile..until then Scott is going to start for Miles! Pure and simple..

I like the idea of change of pace players for LSU, especially late in games when Defensed get tired....that is when big plays begin to open up
