developed loads of great talent prior to that. I

That is simply untrue. Bausch and Aranda developed those DBs and before him you had cooper with PP7 and others. Mo Claiborne was a Cooper guy for example as was TM7.

Raymond came in 2012. He was in fact demoted in 2017.

People won’t give him credit for recruiting/developing guys like Jamal Adams, Tre White, Donte Jackson, Delpit, Fulton, Sting,
no he’s gets all credit in the world for that. But he’s also a major reason why his recruiting and coaching went to shite after the 2019 season. He got complacent.

But his cardinal sin was mentioning being opposed to police brutality and racism- This banishes him to the Permanent Hate Unredeemable Wasteland, with Drew Brees and Ryan Clark.

First I've ever heard about this and I've read a ton of anti-Raymond threads.

Why? He doesn’t call the defense and the only big plays that were made on D his last year here practically all came from his secondary.

Yeah I guess our quality defensive backs didn’t fall off tremendously in his last 3 years. Shut up moron. The guy had his time and fell off. If Florida fired him, you know it’s bad.

So you think Sun Belt Billy is the ultimate arbiter of coaching talent?

I don't think people hate him, thsy just don't like the product he was putting on the field his last two seasons.

Here is what I mean, LSU passing defense as measured but YPG passing of the opponent.

2012- #35 214.6 YPG
2013- #19 205.1 YPG
2014- #3 164.8 YPG
2015- #56 224.3 YPG
2016- #18 192.5 YPG
2017- #19 188.8 YPG
2018- #30 201 YPG
2019- #51 222.1 YPG
2020- #127 323 YPG
2021- #91 248.8 YPG

2020 was the worst pass defense in the history of LSU football, #127 was dead last. 2021 was nearly identical to this season in terms of pass defense.

For reference here are LSU's last two seasons:

2022- #45 217.2 YPG
2023- #106 253.8 YPG

But it is also true that the defense that is run and set in place by the DC has an impact on those numbers.

So like many, I wouldn't hate if they hired him back but I would prefer it to mostly be for recruiting. I would prefer for LSU to go a different route for their DB coach, however, But I really couldn't throw out who that should be.

Its the Ranters way of showing appreciation for all ex LSU stars.

If Joe Burrow was traded to the Cowboys or Falcons he would immediately be scorned.

No I think Sunbelt Billy and his whole staff are garbage and for him to fire Raymond means he’s extremely hot garbage

Clearly, your management acumen is no greater than being the assistant shift leader at Circus Burger.

Is it fair to put that on him since the head coach was busy living it up after the title, the team quit on the head coach, and the defensive coordinator read the room and immediately retired on the job?

Lol bending over backwards for Raymond is an odd stance. Keep trying to fight the good fight, moron

The reason he gets shite is his final two seasons here the defense sucked dick particularly his unit. He got lazy and spent time leveraging openings and then failed to deliver. If you gonna hunt out jobs each year you can’t let it distract you from your job. I would take him back because he is better than Cook or Steeples.

This. I have been very much against Raymond coming back because of how he performed his last two seasons and how UF’s secondary didn’t improve at all in two years under him. That doesn’t detract from my appreciation of what he did here in previous years, but the past doesn’t trump recent performance.

All that said, Raymond is still better than what we have currently. I would personally rather the staff go younger to try and make a longer-term hire that gets us back on track. Chevis Jackson has been mentioned many times. But if Raymond is the hire, I’m behind him. I’m not one of those who wants a coach to fail here just so they can say they called it.

His room was a big part of the problem. The performance was particularly poor, as shown with the stats above. He got one season each out of Stingley and Ricks and Ricks flat-out quit on him and was in the portal to head Bama before Kelly and his staff could even get a foot in the door. Then McGlothern was such a slacker that he got himself suspended and he either left to avoid it or was shown the door.

So yeah, we were a dysfunctional program, but Raymond’s part of us was right at the heart of the culture problem. If you guys think that’s not an issue, I don’t know what to tell you. He was shown the door as part of a program reset for good reason.

That said, if complacency was Raymond’s issue those last two seasons and 2 shitty years at a program that seems to be just as dysfunctional has gotten his attention, it likely wouldn’t be an issue on his return. We’ll see.
