For the love of god do not start Nuss vs Bama.

Remember what happened to Lee there? It will not be good for his psyche.

Just go in there and take the arse whipping with Max at the wheel.

The problem for LSU isn't at the QB position. Nuss isn't better than Max Johnson right now.
The problem wasn't at RB before we changed the scheme, yet Kiner was still running the ball more effectively. It's not always as cut and dry that the "best" player or the one that's "not the problem" should be playing. Sometimes one player plays better than the other in certain situations and we can likely predict the situations we will be in against Bama.

Now does that mean Nuss should start against Bama? Not sure, but I would be surprised if anyone watching that game will not be calling for Nuss to play at least part of the game

Max is going to be the 4th best QB on the roster come Spring assuming the Myles doesn’t transfer out. Myles, Nussmeier, and Howard are all better. Max just doesn’t have the same kind of talent or ability. Myles isn’t athletic but can atleast make the throws, push the ball down the field, and goes through his progressions well. Nussmeier has the arm talent, ability to extend plays, and the gunslinger mentality that you need from a QB in an explosive offense. Howard is probably the best QB we’ve had commit out of High School maybe ever.

I don't think a RS really matters much anymore, especially at that position.

Yeah I dont understand the argument here at all. If he is good enough, a redshirt is a waste anyways if he's the future at QB.

If he isnt good enough, then it's still a waste, because we'll just play someone else (Howard).

you're not starting a freshman on the road in Tuscaloosa.

While on the surface it's easy to freak out about starting a freshman at QB in Tuscaloosa, we all pretty much know he'll be in by the 3rd or 4th quarter

Under normal circumstances, I agree.

But with a lame duck coaching staff, shotty O Line and inconsistent at best running game?

Keep the redshirt and let him start fresh under the new staff

Youre dead right. Max isnt playing so poorly that we need to start a green true freshman on the road against the #3 team in the country. Do I think Max is the future of the program? No, but I do think Nuss needs time to work kinks out or else he may end up looking like Zack Wilson for the Jets.

You don’t let a lame duck burn a redshirt. Whether he plays 4 years or not, Orgeron shouldn’t be allowed to make that decision.

There’s no reason not to start him. Redshirting Nuss only causes a logjam at QB next season and you don’t want that. If he’s successful at LSU he’ll be gone after his Jr. year and Howard can step in after. We can’t have a 3 year QB controversy and it won’t help if Nuss or Howard transfers.

People look at what happened with Jarrett Lee as a reason not to start a freshman at Alabama. He played in 2008 and lsu took Alabama to OT. Yes Lee threw a lot of interceptions in that game but he was pretty prone to throwing picks in his first year.

Start Nuss vs Alabama. Sit johnson.

But that’s a problem (at least it should be) for the next staff to deal with and figure out. I want the next guy to come in with the deck as loaded as possible.

I hear you but we’re gonna lose one of them if we redshirt Nuss. With a new coach coming in we’ll need both guys to establish that position and signal to QB recruits that they should be coming to LSU. Until the next coach lands a big time QB we have to be careful to keep both Nuss and Howard on the roster.

100% agree. You can throw a dart at LSU and hit just another problem or reason the team is "not a team" anymore and it all falls at Coach Zereaux's feet. No QB could look or perform much better with such a disorganized / un coached team. We can't fool ourselves. A team of young college men must be led by some one they either fear - like Nick Satan or they respect. This is just more of last year's woes where the guys know there are really no consequences of their actions. LSU football is like a sailboat with no wind these days.

He's had essentially 1 good SEC game against UF and some pretty mediocre to flat out bad outings outside of that.
He had 240 yds vs Auburn in the 2nd quarter when we punted from the 40. Doesn't have elite arm strength, but I blame the coaches that can't put together a running game and can't respond to defensive adjustments.

We've taken a lead in every game with Max (sans Kentucky, his only bad game). Does Max all of a sudden start sucking or does our gameplan fall apart?
