247’s No. 1 RB isn’t a five star right now.

He’s five on the composite, but not on 247

Reuben Owens

Union parish is not a small school it is 3A. They also play 4-A and 5-A teams every year. When occasionally tplay a 1-A or 2-A team it is an elite 1-A or 2-A team. The level of competition argument for him is a fallacy

They play legitimate competition and certainly don’t play against teams with 22 guys on the roster. They played 3 5A teams and 1 4A team last year. The rest were district games and I think they played Many (previous 2A state champs) and Homer.

Thank you. If you know Louisiana football, then you know he’s playing against good competition

LA all time rusher

The person's record he will likely break is Nick Brossette. Who definitely wasn't a 5-star either, in fact he was a 4-star on 2/3 sites and a 3-star on another.

He did nothing really his first 3 season here, his 4th year he got 1k yards, but at only 4.2 ypc which is very low for college. He did not get drafted and never made an NFL roster.

It's not just about stats when projecting someone at the next level. Holly is a beast, no doubt about that, but they havent seen the athleticism and testing numbers to back up him being a 1st round pick (5 star recruit) ultimately. Doesnt mean he will/wont have success at the college level, it's just extremely hard to become a 5-star recruit...

unless you have Manning as your last name.

Because he isn't going to Bamer, that's why.

They probably aren’t taking the record into consideration bc he’s had close to 1000 carries on a run dominate off. and he’s been on varsity since 8th grade or something like that. That’s the only reason I can give you if he’s the #2 back in his class.

Regardless, glad he’s a Tiger.

I don't know how a 5 star is picked....

5-stars are not based simply on a player's stats and production. A lot goes into it, and it is a PROJECTION of future NFL draft potential rather than a REFLECTION of high school accomplishment. Obviously, you would project higher future success probability for kids that have done a lot already. That said, here's the description of how 247 does their 5-star evals:

But what's the typical timeline for a 5-star? Does he explode onto the scene as a full 5-star or does he pick it up as his high school career progresses? I'm thinking that a 4-star going into his senior year is in solid position to earn that 5th star. But of course the drama queens will always get the most press. Committing early and sticking to it doesn't sell the "premium info".

Good question. There's certainly time for him to continue climbing the rankings. Just remember, though, that as a projection of eventual first-round NFL draft potential, a RB is still going to be well behind the elite QBs, WRs, DBs, OL, and DL. Just the way it is these days.

I really like to look more at the positional rankings than the total stars a lot of times. If you're getting a top 2-3 player at the position, you are getting someone who is going to make an impact at the college level.

look at his competition

It’s better to be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

You don’t know the first thing about who he’s played. He could start at Neville or West Monroe in a heartbeat.

You are looking at this backward. If there are fewer divisions as there are in Louisiana then 3A in Louisiana would be like a 4A or 5A in other States.

I have been educated today. I definitely looked at classifications the wrong way.

I also never meant to insinuate that Union Parish actually played weak competition, I was just listing reasons he might be rated lower despite his production. My mistake was assuming 3A was full of small schools.

His stats may not be as good in a higher classification

His non district schedule this year features (4) 5A schools and (2) 4A. Different year, same competition level for Union Parish.
