People who constantly brag about their heritage is odd to me. I couldn’t care any less. I am 100% American.

Who is bragging about their heritage? Did anyone say anything when hall of famer Mike Piazza played for team Italy in 2006?

ETA: Piazza was apparently team italys manager in 2021 and 2023, a second generation Italian. Nola is a third generation Italian. Where do you draw the line?

I wouldn't refer to Mondo as the best athlete ever from LSU,
however he is the LSU athlete that is most dominate in his individual sport.

So he can be in the WBC. He wouldn’t make the US squad

That’s not a good defense for competing against your country.

The Olympics I agree

It’s necessary and lightheaded in the WBC. If players weren’t willing to do this the WBC wouldn’t work and likely not exist

Couldnt even with the national title for us though in his individual event

So as far as LSU dominating athletes, he isn’t even in the book

Right. The ultimate goal is to get baseball popular enough in these countries that they can fill out the rosters themselves. Right now that means the US is supplying the players (through heritage) for most of the European countries.

Weirdly, one of the ones that seems to be producing a lot of their own players is Czech Republic. They have a bit of a pipeline sending kids to JUCOs in the US to play baseball.

Look at this roster for Arizona Western, a competitive JUCO in a good league: LINK Japan, Spain, Canada, Netherlands, Germany, France, Austria, Mexico, Czech, Venzuela, Dominican Republic, Italy. And they're 19-3 on the season (though they haven't played the toughest part of their schedule yet).

That's ultimately the goal of WBC. Make the sport more popular globally and increase the overall talent pipeline.

What exactly am I wrong about, not saying I'm not but can you be more specific and I can cop to it if I am.

I never said anything of the sort.

I said "Not sure what generation of his family was born in Italy but it seems a stretch."

That in no way indicates he's not of Italian descent - in fact I'm acknowledging his family was from Italy, the name tells anyone that.....I just am wondering which generation of his family lived there...the stretch being it's probably not a parent or even a grandparent....but they stretch it for a lot of folks so it is what it is.

Nah, that's only to be made. You can be a member of a crew without that.

Nationality makeup of team rosters obviously means nothing in this debacle.

Reminds me of the John Grisham novel Playing for Pizza. Except in that book he goes to Italy to play football.
