Why is everyone so down on pitching?

We have 2 very good starters. Both Anderson and Eyanson haven’t even come close to reaching their potential and are steadily getting better.
a Sunday guy who is showing flashes and looked really good in the first inning last night. He is just recovering from injury.
2 very good long relievers capable of going 4+ innings
And a ton of other guys with serious talent that could get it together at any point.
Most teams don’t even have a Sunday guy. Who are these teams that have so much better and deeper staffs than us? I want you to post who they are, and also include where they rank in runs scored. The list is going to be very short.

Not everyone. People who just started watching baseball. The veterans know it's a constant battle. Pitchers like Skeenes don't fall from the trees.

They’re grading us on a championship curve, and they are mad that all the arms arent developed and ready to dominate in march

I think everyone just wants more consistency. They’ve all shown flashes of being good relievers, then they’ll have appearances where they can’t find the plate or can’t get anyone out. Our offense is good enough to match anyone. The bullpen guys just need to give them a chance by not allowing huge innings. I’m not ready to put the fork in them because I’ve seen major improvement throughout the season as recent as two years ago.

Yea and I want 3 Skenes and 9 Dylan crews.
This is a team, not just pitchers. We can win in different ways.
Only Georgia has scored more runs than us (1 more run total) and their staff has an ERA a full point higher and has 25 more walks.
So we are the best offensive team in the SEC with a very good pitching staff. Everyone should be very happy.

People forget the pitching in 2023 was similar to this before postseason play. Still a lot more baseball left, we will be fine

Flashes and looked good in one inning?

I’m not super down on pitching, but it’s inconsistent at best and bad at worst (re: the pen). It’s also incredibly frustrating when it seems like there are times when we can’t find anybody to literally pitch a strike.
We’re now more than three weeks into conference play, so things should be mostly “figured out” by now. It’s baseball. You shouldn’t have to wait all season for “flashes” and “getting things together.” And I’m not even really disagreeing with you, but it seems like a tale as old as time with the old “he’ll figure it out by the end of the season” schtick.
But I’m not sure anybody thinks our pitching legit sucks though. I assume they’re just more frustrated at the lack of consistency I guess. Which is reasonable.

It’s tRant.
They always have to bitch about something.

Everyone thought we had 15 or so all Americans coming out of fall ball. But as always, true competition against actual opponents will begin to tell the real story. We still have quite a few studs..more than most.

So why didn’t you list the teams with a better and deeper staff? Who has a better Sunday guy?
This should be easy for you.
Don’t forget to report how many runs their team has scored.

Because I never said our staff sucks or that anybody had a deeper staff. Hell, I even said I basically agreed with you and was trying to give you reasons why people are frustrated with the staff at times. And your basic premise was that we have a guy showing flashes and looked good in a singular inning.

Sorry that was too difficult for you to comprehend, I guess.

Currently? Tennessee, arkansas, texas am, unc, nc st, florida st, kansas st, and oregon st all have better 3rd starters
Ours has better upside than about half of those

I think more important is what Noot showed last night…..mainly he can throw competitive strikes. He should be the first out if the pen if Cowan and/or Evans isn’t available when we have a lead or the game is close.

I think last night was frustrating because we had a huge lead all game and nobody was consistently throwing strikes. It wasn't a high pressure situation, just throw the ball over the plate, and let them put it in play. Instead our bullpen was getting behind in the count and making it harder than it needed to be.

THIS, and based upon what we have seen this season it is a legitimate concern. It is GREAT to see us handling the lesser teams and racking up SEC W's, but a tough slate lies ahead and if we can't find the strike zone or continue to hit opposing batters, we won't get the results we want. Lot of potential in that BP, just need to create more stress free innings and it starts by throwing strikes. Trust your stuff & be fearless in the zone!

Skenes may be a better catcher and could make sense at 1B so I'll take 5 Skenes and 7 Crews

Arkansas, and Tenn are 2. You look up their stats.

So… you wake up this morning see the score then skim over posts made during the last 1/2 of the game (being played well after midnight, mind you) and you come to the conclusion that everyone is down in the entire pitching staff???
What the overwhelming majority (after drinking quite a bit, it’s well after midnight, mind you) were bitching about is how comical it is after Evans and Cowan have been used that we parade pitcher, after pitcher, who are beyond inconsistent. One pitch they are throwing a 98 mph heater over the corner of the plate then they are hitting a batter, then throwing 4 pitches in a row that aren’t anywhere close to the plate,
It’s the wild, not even competitive pitches that a lot of our relievers throw over and over again that frustrates people.
Btw, it was awesome to see Noot come in and pitch like he did. We may have found one more reliever after Cowan and Evans that looks like he can hold the rope.

Not fair to compare any pitcher to Skenes. He might have been the best pitcher to come through LSU. Fairer comparison is Holman, Jump, Herring, Floyd etc.
