I can tell you this, no way we sniff a natty in 2007 had we played Kent St. instead of playing and trouncing Va Tech that year.
Of course Va Tech could argue if they had played Kent State instead of LSU they would have been in BCSCG and they are right
But that was the BCS “2 team playoff”
They were #3 in the final BCS rankings so they would make a 4 team playoff and get a bye in the current format. I believe this mentality that a tough OOC game can kill your season if you lose goes back to even before the BCS but it’s really not as big a concern now.
Conference Championship Games cost multiple teams shots at the title. yet any time someone suggested that those should be eliminated they would be attacked for such a stupid suggestion by the same type of people that think it’s ok to not play big OOC games.

And all of their regular season losses were at Clemson, and the close one vs SMU was at home too. Also consider their SOS at 36 (LSU was 10). They are beatable.

So LSU will be improved at OL/DL/DB from last years team despite the only returning starter being a safety, meanwhile Clemson is expected to be the same or worse despite bringing back their entire team who will be a year older/more polished?
FYI LSU went 9-3 in the regular season in 2018, same as Clemson last year

I think we lose. First game. Breaking in new players and new OL. Very hostile environment

I’d think they are a good team. But you are crazy if you don’t think their stats are padded playing in ACC. Being an all team ACC means nothing. Their top DE had 11 sacks. 4 from a game against a shitty Pitt team. I think FSU was a much better team defensively the last time we lost to them.

You can say it as many times as you want. Take away the name clemson and tell me their big wins last year with those returning players? Just because you have returning production doesn't mean you are good. They beat who last year? Now, who did they lose to?
Posted on 8/5/25 at 12:22 pm to SECCaptain
Lmao...yeah because 9-3 in the sec is the same as 9-3 in the acc. Jesus where do yall come from.

I'm not totally sure what you are getting at. I'm not claiming they had a ton of great wins last year... Do you think that young returning players can't get better? Do you think being at home doesn't matter? Do you think upgrading the coaching staff doesn't matter? I'm genuinely curious as to what part of my post you have a problem with.
Clemson losses:
#6 Georgia
Louisville
#19 South Carolina
#4 Texas
LSU losses:
USC
Texas A&M
#17 Alabama
Florida

And they would be right.....but we had two losses that year so we would not have, my point being we benefited from scheduling up, even though our two losses were to pretty middling teams that finished the year 8-5 even with a win over us! One of them in our house!!

Definitely some irony there although I don't think all that want to schedule Cupcakes would be opposed to eliminating these conference title games but I digress....I'm all for playing tough games OOC and if they are game 1 they are game 1 - start winning them - most disagree with me but that's fine, I disagree with them and could debate it all day and will with whoever would like to.

I 100% agree with you. That particular year it was why LSU got in with 2 loses. I just think the mentality that tough OOC games could end your season with a loss goes back to the “old days” of the MNC through the BCS.

Their only win in regular season last year over a team with a winning record was 7-6 Pittsburg. You keep trying to prop them up like they are some elite team.

Again, I've never claimed that Clemson had a bunch of great wins last year...

I did? I literally said that I think LSU might end up being a better team than them by the end of the season in the post that you responded to.

They have been beaten 62-10 in their last two opening games. Ones was to ga...but the other was duke.
They are being praised for great defensive players even though they were atrocious last year. Now what have they done to improve, get a little older. Atrocious to elite? They have a new DC but that takes time to gel....
Im not saying LSU will win this game, especially given how they have played in openers, but if LSU is going to be a legit threat this year they should come out and handle business, even on the road.

What in the hell are you talking about....and what in the hell does clemson 2018 have to do with clemson 2025?
Dude, something is off with you.

I'm referencing what kind of potential improvements a young, inexperienced team full of potential NFL 1st rounders can make in 1 season, hence 2018->2019 LSU, you imbecile
