re: Why does the Baton Rouge media have no teeth

It’s the nature of new media. Where as reporters used to be the voice of the fans the new model is to be a mouthpiece for the team you’re covering. BR is worse than most but a lot of media is like this now.

Who was that local MSST guy who got Bucky Beaver Freeze fired? He just did some basic FIOa requests.

BK allows them a lot of access that other coaches have not allowed

Because LSU can cut access off if they go in too hard on Kelly. At least if one of them did they would be more respected by the fan base. Instead of everyone tossing soft ball queations to him.

Rabalais is a snowflake compared to King, Peter Finney, Ted Costello, et al.

They’re puss bags. Not one of them has any integrity

I’ve covered LSU for 15 years and don’t recall a single media member losing credentials for asking questions in a press conference.
I’ve been very open on my show that you aren’t going to get “Fire the Coach” from me because I get a check from LSU during football season. I will criticize, and have, when I feel it’s warranted. Not going to call for jobs.
Matt roasted Orgeron for years. Never lost a credential.
I push back on the notion that it’s the media’s job to skewer a coach when his team is losing. The truth of the matter is that no one really cares about press conferences. It’s about wins and losses.
What question and subsequent answer would make yall feel better about the program?

Like I said, most sports journalists are not journalists. The only reason Ross was so good is because his wife is a crack reporter and taught him how to be one, how to develop sources, pursue stories, ask follow up questions, and buck the system.
You saw how Kelly reacted to a decent question. Coach Prime did ban a reporter last year and another one while at JSU because the poor schmuck asked about a players arrest for domestic violence. It does happen.
One reason why the old guys would do it and the young guys won't is not age.
The reporters coming up have no killer instinct. Rare is the one who is aggressive or knows how to go for the jugular. They aren't pushed in journalism school. They aren't taught how to research.
The guys in particular, tend to be more effeminate than in years past and are softer than LSU's offensive line.
You are correct in that no reporter has had credentials revoked but don't think that doesn't hang over their heads.

You think reporters need a “killer instinct” when it comes to a football game?
I think we just have a fundamental disagreement on responsibilities.

They're afraid of a complete idiot calling them spoiled again.

Local media is afraid of losing their press passes. And the free food in the press box.

They can't afford to piss LSU off.
This is the answer. For the most part, it's not the reporters, it's the outlets.Doucet has been running with the everybody is starting to get pissed angle since the game ended. I guess that's about as far as he can go without throwing his opinion in, which he is really good about not doing. He's good about staying neutral and just reporting.

I have one question.
Can we buy BK out?
That is the elephant in the room. All the rest is conjecture.

Questions for the Coach:
SPECIFICALLY-where’s the breakdown occurring on the offensive line? Why aren’t these players unable to protect your franchise QB for more than 1.5 seconds and why aren’t these players able to provide push for a running play, especially inside the 5 yard line? We’re 8 weeks in.
SPECIFICALLY-why have you not substituted MVB into the game when Nuss was clearly struggling passing and was under extreme pressure almost every snap. Nuss is not a running threat.
SPECIFICALLY-what’s going on with your WR rotation? Too much talent at that position to have that little production from Brown, Hilton, Anderson.
-Also Coach Kelly, would you consider making a coaching change mid-season in an effort to save a season before it’s too late?

Sure. You just have to convinced mega millionaires to spend $65 million buying out a staff and. $90 million on the new one. And $20 million annually on every roster.
I can’t pretend to know what those conversations sound like.

He’s talked about right tackle and said they want to stick with Davis on potential.
He’s said he’s not going to take Nuss out of the game.
He’s said the WR rotation is tightening.
He has not been asked about midseason coaching changes.
A lot of this has been addressed. It goes back to my original point that even if he said:
“Yes, we’re awful on the offensive line. I screwed up not going to Van Buren in short yardage. That’s something we’re going to look at this week. At WR, we have to go with Anderson, Thomas, Brown and Green. They’re playing the best. And I’m firing three offensive assistants.”
Would that make yall think, “ok, he’s got it figured out.”?
I contend it’s just barstool conversation….which is fine.
But no one really cares about press conferences unless things are bad. And at that point you don’t really care about the press conference. You just care that things are bad.

The fans and donors have more power than the local media. If LSU loses more money by not firing him because the donors cut off the funds then they fire him if they can’t get the money to fire him then he keeps his job LSU doesn’t have a full time president which complicates things. You think Penn State fired their coach because of local media or pressure because the donors demanded it same thing with Florida about to Be Florida State. This will be a financial decision.
