Why do people feel a non-MNC year is a let down?

It seems like some LSU fans feel like this year in/year out. It's bad in both football and baseball.

There is only one true championship LSU plays for, the SEC championship.

Some of you are just plain pathetic, not real fans of LSU.

I don't even think the play off system next year will help that much, it's still only four teams.

Let's play for the SEC championship and let the cards fall where the may. Quit thinking if we don't make the MNC game (or four team play off next year), that we had a bad season.

My biggest hope is a 9-10 win season (and beating Bama).

A lot of people thought 2003 & 2007 were over as well. I do wonder if these people quit at work or in other situations when they get a set back or a challenge?
I know these are not the people you want on your team when things get tough.

Personally, I consider a 10+ win season a fairly good season in the sense I can say I enjoyed our team for the majority of it.

But I think with where our program has been this past decade, it is a let down when we don't win or play for the National Championship. It's a solid chance for us to make a mark that will only build towards the future of the program. Everyone wants their team to have an era(s) where there team was truly dominant and have the titles to prove it.

That being said...

I agree

Because we're LSU.

Sorry we can't go back to the Cholly Mac 7-4 days like all the old folks so desperately want to.

Where we celebrate close losses to USC.

I'm happy if LSU is in the discussion for the majority of the season. As OP said, the goal should be winning the conference championship in the best conference in the land. Not much you can do about teams with easy schedules going undefeated. 10+ wins and being in it in the last few weeks of the season keeps me happy.

Because the SEC has won the last seven. If we aren't winning it, our conference rivals are, and we hate those guys (Florida, Auburn, and Bama).

If the national titles were being spread around the country we would feel different.

Because this is LSU, we recruit the best prospects, get the best coaches, have the best facilities. And we are a powerhouse and have been for the last 10+ years (a feat nobody can say they have in this decade or the last) call us spoiled. But I say, good for us for being spoiled. I'm glad we're spoiled that means that we have a team every year that can go to the NC.

So I ask the OP, what's wrong with high expectations when you have a program like ours?

I don't get these type of posts. LSU has come a long way since the 90's. How should the fans react to losses like this one?

Acting like everything is good is accepting mediocrity IMO. The defensive effort we saw last night was reminiscent of some early 90's teams. It's disturbing to say the least. I get it...we lost a lot of guys to the NFL but are we really expected to be happy with being run all over and passed on like its a 7 on 7 drill?

I expect more from our coaches and players...if that makes me a bad fan so be it.

No such thing as a letdown year as an LSU fan. Those boys were just playing a game yesterday, and the only thing we're supposed to take away from it is entertainment. We were entertained. Sometimes you lose. No reason to be upset about anything 5 minutes after the loss, much less the next day.

The top 4-5 teams in the sec say this too. We lost a shite ton of kids last year. If you though our D was going to look any better than it does, you're an idiot.

I don't think that means what you think it means.

The same way they react to Rocky's loss to Mason Dixon: slight immediate emotional disappointment that your guy didn't win, but by the time you leave the theater, you've long since realized that the movie had nothing to do with you and that your only role is to be entertained or not entertained.

In short, you're supposed to react very little to a loss, and certainly not at all the next day. It's a college extracurricular activity, and you're a grownup. Great game yesterday. Too bad the Tigers couldn't pull it out. Pube-stache played like a champ.

Somebody else already highlighted this, but I wanted to personally congratulate you on the greatest post on the Score Board I've ever seen. :dramaticirony:

In recent years, the SEC championship is a ticket to the MNC. If you're happy with 10-2 and the Cotton or Chik Fila Bowl year after year, that's your privilege. Check your LSU at at the door, however.

In short, it is because most of our fans are idiots.
