It’s a sure sign that LSU fans have been completely demoralized by Bama when we start coming up with all sorts of ridiculous theories for how we’re going to get into the playoffs without beating them. Get over it. Accept it. Whatever you have to do. But understand this: WE ARE NOT GETTING IN WITHOUT BEATING THEM! End of story.

If we do to them what Clemson did to them last year, then they ain’t getting in. Likewise, if we lie down and can’t score a point or can’t even cross midfield, we won’t be in.

Alabama loses, they're still in the NC/play-off picture. LSU loses, Capital One Bowl.

We won't though, and Bama will still be in.

If we win, Bama can still get in and most likely will. I agree.

WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! This is the problem w the LSU fan base EVERY year. Just beat everyone else on the schedule except 'Bama and we will make college playoffs. Problem w that thought process is 2 fold:
1. We don't think we can/will win
2. We don't win all the other games
I say we beat the Tide in their house then that settles that. NO more excuses or worries about making playoffs w/o beating everyone on the schedule. Geaux Tigers!

First off, LSU can absolutely get in the CFP with a close loss at Bama as long as we win out. Our fate is out of our hands at that point and we no longer control our own destiny, but it's a very real possibility.
LSU would get in over Oregon even if they win the Pac-12 IMO since 1.) LSU beat Auburn and Oregon did not 2.) the SEC is perceived to be a stronger conference than the Pac-12 (5 of the top 11 teams) 3.) LSU would have more quality wins and a tougher SOS
I also think LSU would get in over Oklahoma due to the quality of loss (losing a close one to Bama vs. Oklahoma getting blasted on the road at a mediocre Kansas State team...the final score wasn't indicative of how much the Sooners were dominated. Also, LSU would have a stronger SOS and more quality wins here too.
Now, if we lose 29-0 to Bama again all of the above points are nullified. Or if we lose to a Tua-less Bama, I think we're in trouble.
The only major wrinkle in this scenario would be if Bama lost to a one-loss UGA or Florida in the SEC Champ game, then we're probably toast.
In all honestly, Bama needs the win in two weeks more than us, because the only argument they'll have vs. Oregon/Utah or Oklahoma if they lose to LSU is the eye test and quality of loss. They don't have near the resume or SOS when compared to LSU vs. those teams.
The sad fact though is that there's a very good chance this game is a rematch in the first round of the CFP as a No. 1 vs. No. 4 matchup assuming Clemson and Ohio State win out.

If LSU wins, I think Alabama has a shot at the playoffs, but not as good a shot as some would believe. The Gameday crew discussed this and said that Alabama would not be in with a loss to LSU based on the weakness of their resume.
If LSU loses a close game we still have a solid shot at making it in as a 4th seed.
If we get blown out then we can look forward to playing Texas or Wake Forest in a bowl game.

Close competitive game, both teams take care of business down the stretch....both teams are in playoff
OU loss + Notre Dame out + Auburn win over Orgeron = 2 SEC teams are in
LSUs resume can handle a loss better than Alabama though since we have Florida and Texas wins.

Wouldnt hurt to have Auburn seal the deal and spank the gumps in the Iron Bowl after we humiliate them.
A two-loss Bama certainly doesn't make the playoff.....oh wait

It matters. Game will have to be very close to get both teams in the playoff like in 2011. You have to remember both teams were head and shoulders better than the rest of the country that year. NFL players at every position. SEC had been dominating for the previous decade. Came down to some missed fgs. If LSU had won easily, there wouldn't have been a rematch. This year, there's a little more parity with Clemson, OSU, OU, etc that it would be easier to give someone else a shot in the playoffs.
I think it'll have to be a 1 score/last possession game to get a playoff rematch. And even then, it will depend on what other 1 loss teams are out there.

Lose a close game in Tuscaloosa (get blown out and you have no chance) and LSU must root against a one-loss PAC 12 championship between Utah and Oregon. LSU won't get in over a one-loss Big 10 champion, the SEC champ, or undefeated Clemson.
So LSU fans should root hard for Washington and USC this weekend.

it does matter in the fact that if you win and continue to win you don’t have to worry about what other teams do. If you lose then you have to start hoping some other teams lose.
Ohio State/Penn State/Minnesota win out in the Big ten they are in.
Clemson wins out they are in from the ACC
LSU/Bama/Florida/Georgia win out they are in from the SEC
Oklahoma/Baylor wins out they will be in from the Big 12. They aren’t going to choose a one loss team without a conference championship over one with a championship.
I don’t think the Pac-12 will get a team in. Oregon is their best chance and they will have a loss to the 5th place SEC team

Agreed this will go both ways with a blow out win.

It's not a given that Alabama beats Auburn. They most likely will, but if Auburn's defense creates a few turnovers , they could keep them in that game. Then, a win over Alabama would be huge and keep them out of the playoffs.

This would be a shame if this happens. I don't believe it will.

This, and the playoff committee will be salivating over a Hurts vs Tua playoff game.

Auburn will give Alabama hell. Especially after we beat them the hell up!
