re: Why did the new box get built so generic?

Firstly, I literally just said “let all of the old crews fly their flags” as in we miss that from the old box. So that’s weirdly defensive when I was supporting that. Secondly, I graduated from the university and I pay my TAF fees for my tickets every year. Very aggressive of you.

80yr old had the most say, deserving but still not very imaginative

Good question

but the basic design is 100% Skip's
Skip was a great coach, but failed miserably as AD and stadium architect because he is miserly at heart.
Not hiring Bianco shows his influence has waned (and should given his signature hire Les Miles has been disgraced).

The west upper deck is all you have to look at. No panels hiding the pipes or drainage, pure trah.. For years the white pipe hung below the structure embarrassing the admin and architect until finally after years of ridicule, it got painted....PAINTED, not covered by panels.
This is the type of mental stated LSU is led by. The Tiger cage is another good example. They tore down the historic cage when it could have been craned to another location and preserved. NOPE> They tore it apart and buried it along with the murals and history.
Now come to the baseball stadium. There was no way anything associated with Skip Bertman was going to be cutting edge. He was a great coach and terrible at everything else. He could have demanded a copy of Wrigley Field and gotten it but he didn't even think to ask.
We got what we got because of the same mental giants that have continuously led our state into backwardness. They never go anywhere to see new things or even think their might be a better way at doing things.
THey didn't want the Centroplex, said we had the Assembly Center. They didn't want the performing arts theater, said we had the union theater, didn't want the LASC, said we had the Ole Gov. Mansion...it's a sickness, the same sickness that didn't properly design the interstate system, put the bridge where it should have been and will always be what it is: HALF arse.

It was the best park when built. Others have had the chance to improve on our model

Trahan is awful. Not sure if he sold his sold, has nude photos of someone, or sucks a mean dick but he's received a lot of money for very pedestrian products.
What does that have to do with The Box? Trahan didn’t design it.

How are you going to lose revenue by putting a hill in left and right center? There isn’t anything there now except a fricking hot sauce bottle

It's crazy how in the Hold the Rope documentary Bertman made it a point to mention how intimidating the old box was with fans on top of the players (30ft away from home plate he said). If he knew that was special, why not replicate it??

They've probably earned the right to do whatever they want in their seats. Not everyone has to be a loudmouthed asshat like you apparently are.

LSU's Tiger Stadium and New Alex Box Stadium have been ranked two of the world's top 100 sports venues by BusinessInsider.com, a professional business website and blog, it was announced earlier this week.
Tiger Stadium was listed 23rd in the world and ranked as the second-best college football venue. New Alex Box Stadium, which opened in 2009, was the only college baseball venue to make the list coming in at No. 85.
Alex Box Stadium ranked higher than seven Major League Baseball ballparks on the list, including San Diego's Petco Park (100), New York's Citi Field (99), Washington's Nationals Park (96), Denver's Coors Field (92), Houston's Minute Maid Park (91) and Pittsburgh's PNC Park (90).

I think they tried to preserve the old feel from the box and well, uh, yeah that didn't work out well.

Maybe I'm old fashioned but I don't go to games for creature comforts . I just want to see a good exciting game . we tailgate before game and I have a jack Daniels and coke during game . I'd be ok If it was the field of dreams stands .

So no good basketball players want to go to Duke?
Players care about their practice, training, locker room facilities and if there are plenty of fans, but they don’t care about luxury boxes and concessions and chair-back seats.

The need to add decks for the beer drinkers

And the LSU baseball players have elite facilities for the players to train, dress, and relax. They player amenities at Alex Box Stadium are second to none.
It’s the fans that are holding the short end of the stick.

A beer deck in centerfield sounds like a good thing
