re: Why did the new box get built so generic?

It was nice when it was built in 2009 but college baseball has come a long way since then. 12 years is a long arse time in stadium years. The Box is due for a major overhaul and I have to believe Woodward understands this. More importantly, I hope that's what he's telling the next coach.
The changes are really simple. They don't have to do a complete rebuild. Putting chairbacks down the lines is a no-brainer. Relocating the bullpens is another must. That never should've been done in the first place. LSU also desperately needs some type of party area.

Dudy-Noble field is double decked from behind home plate down both right and left field lines. (see photo in attached article) It is very impressive, but the thing that separates State's ballpark from all others is the Left Field Loft. I don't know if something like that is desired, or possible, but something that will be as impressive is needed if the Box is going to continue to be the best ballpark in the country.

No way in hell will woke LSU allow “Coon’s Corner.” Can you imagine the outrage?

Moving the stadium was a terrible idea. The old Alex Box was in a great location. Now...meh.

The new Box is not as loud as the old Box.

I always thought that the new Box was built the way it was with exposed beams and all was to make it easier to expand it at a later date. I never considered that it was designed that way on purpose.

The dimensions and fence height should’ve been a copy of Rosenblatt Stadium since both are our second home.

It was built like that for more air circulation and to lift more homeruns with the south wind

It was Skip grand plan and totally shite the bed on the UX.
Also, go back to the time it was being built. We were in the midst of massive recession and credit crunch. Money dried up. It’s also why South Carolina didn’t get a chance to build the park and they wanted.

Plus at the time the SEC Network had not launched so LSU didn't have that revenue stream to play with
MSU had a lot more money to play around with facilities wise

The Grandstand is fine. Everything that’s not under the grandstand is junk.

Winning solves a lot of this in my opinion. Going on a run to the national championship and winning some SEC titles in the ballpark after the slump of the last few years will make it special again.

It is still "nice". But is has ALWAYS been boring. I remember going to a game the first year it opened and thinking THIS is what all the fuss is about? It was nice, but nothing really stood out as unique. They basically tried to recreate the Old Box with a newer façade, luxury suites, and a few bells and whistles rather than just building a new stadium all around.
The old Box was from an era where no one really gave a shite about baseball. It was utilitarian and served a purpose. The atmosphere, beginning in the late 80's though 2008 was great. But that was a byproduct of the fans and success of the team. Not because the Box was a great stadium in and of itself. They really would have been better served to treat it as if they were building a new minor league stadium rather than a "new Box". It had a good run, but the popularity of LSU baseball had outgrown it in all ways. From the little league-esque signage completely covering the outfield walls to the cheap aluminum bleacher in all but the grandstands. Those "necessities" at a time when the sport wasn't that popular were no longer needed 2009.

The number one issue with the new box from a game viewing perspective is too much foul territory around home plate. I'm not sure its feasible, but shifting the entire field back towards the grandstand would be a big plus. You could then proportionally move the outfield fences in, allowing for more room beyond the walls for a berm and or tailgating.
The best thing about the old Box is how you always felt you were on top of the action.

How many of you actually go to baseball games?

They mentioned at the time that it was built in a way that they could eventually add to it or get better amenities somewhere down the line.
This is what I remember as well. Seems like they never added anything?

Am I the only fan of LSU basketball and baseball who doesn’t care at all about the facilities for the fans, but only for the excitement of watching the actual game?
Sometimes I think so.

The players that you love to watch care about facilities.
